Not in the world of Zoom. It is interesting how this Covid crisis has opened up my reach to people. I am seeing patients mostly by Zoom in the last couple of months and I am getting appointments from all over this country.

This is all well and good, but I think it's relatively moot until this forum has more meaty topics. Meaty doesn't mean so complex that it's over everybody's head but something that has substance and meaning for posters at their level - their need.

The dearth of responses to such topics says to me that either there is no interest even if useful, or beyond a poster's knowledge.

If beyond a forum member's knowledge, then there is the opportunity for growth that is met with apathy. The alternate is more distraction with superfluous material.

I think with a new forum we have yet found this balance. Perhaps when we are offered more meat choices on the menu this will happen. And superfluous material is a necessary balance... kinda like the sauce to the meat if it were. Let that simmer in your mind, after setting the temp at 95 degrees for 20 minutes (if that is the current temperature in your climate). Bottom line: This is an effort of love in development and I truly believe we are finding the way.

Worthless strings are in the mind of the reader. Some will find value to another persons perceived worthless encounter. To that individual, s/he can choose to just ignore that thread.

Humor... that helps us vent and adds some flavor to the discussion as well. A trumpet site needs to be addressing the needs of a trumpet player, and we as trumpet players do things the other 23 hours of the day when we are not practicing our trumpets. I find in interesting in the common threads of interests that trumpet players share. So I think this is the "sauce" that helps season the meat (trumpet).

Artists on Board... On TB this was started by a painter. It does seem to be heavily weighed toward one individual. I was the one who stated this parallel thread on TM. It was started not as a promotion, but as an acknowledgement of a painting I purchased from a prior trumpet player artist living in Florida that had a unique eye for painting the trumpet in a dynamic way. This thread then brought out a multitude of artists, as that was the point of my thread that was called "Artists among artists". It worked, as it brought out a lot of TM members passions in painting, photography, wood carvings. On TB, we just apparently do not have the same "volume" of trumpet players involved in other forms of art. Clearly we have one that is very involved and I still find it of value to see all the contributions that individual has made. With that said, it should not be a retail effort on the part of the artist, and I have not seen that to be the case. My challenge to everyone here: If you have other forms of art that you do (I know wood working is one of them as shown by several on this forum) then please contribute to that thread so it does not appear to be a one man show. As that artist originally titled the thread Artists (not Artist) on board. So Artists... Contribute.

I would have contributed some photography, but since that thread was started by an individual to showcase his art and he never asked for other artistic input, I would feel like I was stepping on his posts.

So important to bring this out. I did not think that was his intent (using Artists) but I can understand your perception since most posts are his. I think if you start contributing (would love to see your art) this may break the perception that it is one individual only.

Do we really have a "problem" or is life in general simply a challenge sometimes?

To be honest, one of the things that irritated me most at Trumpetmaster was the lowest common denominator thinking for conflict resolution. I was often accused of "abusing" my moderator position when having an opinion. There were enough members that felt "attacked" when called out on something controversial that they posted. My life was threatened twice and I had to go to the police station (in Germany) twice to make statements (different issues).

Sure, there are certain things that I consider "below the belt". Do I need "rules" to deal with that? (no) Do such rules simply move the attitude and danger "underground". (yes)

I think that lowest common denominator is the end of any society. I think that vehemently disagreeing is not a bad thing. As this is an open internet forum, there is no law requiring TrumpetBoards to let everyone in or even throwing them out with no reason given.

Those that want a haven on the internet for free that bends to the whim of the day simply should stay off line.

In theory, membership could be by audition with a probationary period - just like with any professional symphony orchestra on the planet.

I do not have to like anyone elses opinion. I certainly treasure their ability to have it however.

My personal opinion is that what is missing is not "rules", it is respect. By respect, I mean finding out what qualifications one has to make a definitive statement, and if the qualifications are "high enough", treating those statements as well founded - even if I do not agree. Unfortunately there are a lot of people with no qualifications that are powerful posters - but with no redeeming value. Those people would not DREAM of standing up at ITG and saying the same things that they post.

I recently removed myself as a moderator. I no longer check the site on a frequent basis (life is busy right now!)...so it just didn’t make sense to be a moderator. Somebody more active on the site will be a better fit.

And there it is! Unfortunately the Internet is often used in a way that allows people to say anything to anyone. Instead of beer muscles (people that have played in bars know exactly what I mean) maybe there needs to be the term "Internet muscles".
