RE: residue in valve ports
@Newell-Post said in residue in valve ports:
...and what about piccolos and D/Eb horns where the #2 slide is fixed? I use one of these bladder things intended for flushing pipes to flush my horns. Make sure all of the slides are tight or tied in place, go out on the back deck, hook it up to the garden hose, stick it in the bell, and give the horn a good flush. Press the valves, and you flush all of the slides and valve ports. Before flushing, I usually use the snake brush on the lead pipe and main slide, and a 28 gauge shotgun swab on the valve casings. Then a good thorough flush of the whole horn is the last step before lubricating. Of course, I live in the Peoples Republic of California where I can do this outdoors on the back deck all year round...
YIKES!!!!! I know that works but the metal tip would make me think twice. I use this, AND you're correct about making sure the slides are secure. I've heard things, terrible things, things too terrible to mention.

I would also venture a guess that he doesn't empty the 2nd valve when he plays. 99.9% don't. I mention that since the grey was only there.
What do you mean by "empty"?
Remove the bottom cap and drain it?
I usually remove all my bottom valve caps and shake the water off. My Getzen seems to accumulate a lot of moisture/condensation.Pull the whole slide out like the Frenchies AND as Bach makes you do for the 3rd slide on their Strads.

I don't know... what's wrong with a good ol' catcher's mitt? It protects against any wood that strikes it as a result of foul tips, AND can handle the balls that fall into the pouch!
And how does this relate to back pain... less strain [during the activity], less pain on the axial skeletal system; just to make sure we are all keeping on track with this thread!
One other point about carpal tunnel syndrome that is pertinent to the catchers mitt, the most prescribed non operative treatment for this entity is a splint, specifically a cock up splint for the wrist. The catchers mitt also will serve well in this function, placing the wrist in the cock up position.
Please see the below videos for illustration:

I don't know, I think it's a swing and a miss! Unless the pitcher is throwing all balls..., might be the only way to get on base. I guess it would depend on the patient, it could be a home run! Batter up!

RE: Favorite Cornet
@Richard-III said in Favorite Cornet:
I don't have the before, but then again, the before and after pretty much look the same. The difference is the leak between the lead pipe and the receiver is fixed. Plays much better now. Is it a cornet? It plays with a cornet mouthpiece. However, it plays in F. Also with all of the extra crooks it also can play in Eb, D and C. In F the fingerings are Bb trumpet/cornet.
Reminds me of a cornopean. If it has Stoelzel valves, voila!, cornopean!

@Dr-GO ...
It's not just my back though. After the Viagra you sent me I developed carpal-tunnel syndrome.Vulgano Brother and Dr.Go,
I ask for your forgiveness and understanding for inserting myself in this exchange, but I had some relevant thoughts about Vulgano Brotherโs carpal tunnel syndrome. Certainly if allowed to advance, the carpal tunnel syndrome would adversely affect his trumpet playing to the point that Clarke Studies would no longer be possible to play.
My first thought would be to go to a well qualified massage parlor for therapeutic massage. If a minimum of five treatments per week for a month do not improve your carpal tunnel syndrome, or at least take your mind off of it, wearing the below pictured gloves 24 hours a day will certainly give your hands and wrists adaquate rest to allow all swelling to subside.
Good luck!!!While I applaud your effort, I do think there are better choices. I would definitely recommend these although it may be rough going cold turkey, but there would really be no other option! It wood be hard, but not really!

Is this an open medical advice forum?
I think it is a good idea. It will keep you busy, out of trouble, and give you a sense of accomplishment if you are going to be retired and all.
I will provide you with a list of FAQ's to begin with soon. Brilliant.Well dude, I like took some stuff one time and it was crazy good and worked great. Yeah, it was umm, uh, man, I can't remember, but it was awesome.

RE: Is a $280 New Bach Stradivarius Trumpet too good to be true?
@mafields627 said in Is a $280 New Bach Stradivarius Trumpet too good to be true?:
As a band director, I would hate to have to burst some kid's bubble thinking they had scored a great horn. There's always a lot of excitement that comes with those purchases. However, I also know what the results will be down the road. Some of them do sound pretty good until they start needing repairs. For some reason, though, parents often refuse to consult their student's band director before making these sorts of purchases.
Yep!! I was consulted about a horn for a beginner and gave the person many options and price points, and brands to look for. There are LOTS of Yamaha 2335 trumpets available locally in the $200-$300 range. After several discussions that included info about horns I owned (odd), the inquiries stopped. I later found out, a $79.95 band director approved, black lacquer TSO, complete with white gloves was purchased instead. The inquiries about my horns had been raised in hopes that I would help an aspiring young student buy giving them one of my horns.
I am of the mind that you get what you pay for and Caveat Emptor should always be at the forefront of any horn purchase. A new Strad for $280 to good to be true? Absolutely too good to be true. -

@Tobylou8 - I will send pics but I won't get to work on this till after the 1st of May after we make our move back to Denver for the summer. Could you tell me how to set up my account to receive notifications regarding responses to threads I wish to follow ?
Underneath the last post on a page there is a box with a little bell in it. Just make sure the bell doesn't have a strikethrough mark on it and you'll get responses to this thread. You can also get notifications via e-mail daily, weekly or monthly. I have not used that function so cannot tell you if it works.

What can we do to build our user base? I believe that TH has something like 70k registered users. We only have 130 to date.
A little math.
We have 130 @ 5 weeks = 26 new member/week.
26 members/wk x 52 wks in a year - 1,352 members/year.70,000 TH members/1,352 members TB members/year = 51 years.
Hey, perhaps we are on course, as hasn't TH been around for 51 years... or does it just seem that way!
These things don't trend linear. We haven't reached critical mass, and won't until there are more topics of substance. That's fine for now.
Oh, if nobody noticed, jazzspazz has moved the troll show over to TH.
