I'm asking about the OP. Thad Mel had some awesome blowers.

It's a Nestico chart called Color Me Warm, and the 3rd part has a lick that starts on G above the staff, going to D, then D#. For 4 years I've played that down an octave, but a few weeks ago tried and found I was on the notes. I certainly don't "command" anything above B. But reaching for, and finding these notes, is to me kind of like cracking the lid on a jar, and it is getting easier, less of a squeak.

@administrator fyi Harrelson uses Carol Valves and other foreign components to his horns.

Thank you @ACB , I was not aware. It makes financial sense to do so, but proves the point that less and less companies are "100% homemade." I mean, Toyota uses a BMW engine in their new Supra!

Quite a few Supra purist are none too happy about that! Toyota's reasoning was that "purist" wanted a straight 6 engine. Okay. Then "purist" would also want it to be a Toyota engine! Toyota didn't want to spend the money on R&D for a low volume car. Also, only available in an automatic transmission!!! Yep, I agree it will be a low volume car.

After the first couple of licks, I really questioned whether or not this was Maynard. Thanks for the info. This is Maynard:

WOW!! That 1st tune... the cat could play!!!

      Baseball?

I was born, bred, and raised, and diehard NY Mets fan! 😀

As a kid growing up in upstate New York (Poughkeepsie) -- roughly 2 hours, including traffic, from NYC, we would always go down to Shea Stadium (now Citi Field) and see the Mets play ball. So many wonderful memories!

Edit (to make this trumpet related): Can you imagine playing trumpet in the stadium, out on the field at 2nd base or something? Or play like The Beatles did back in the day, and have so many screaming fans, that you can't even hear yourself play? LOL...

      LET'S GO METS!!! 😎

      NY.Mets.jpg

I remember watching the Phillies and Mets on Philly channel 17 in June of '69 with my grandfather. We really didn't watch much baseball growing up and I didn't know all the teams, but to a me, the Mets name sounded cooler than the Phillies. Grandpa (who was from Philly) asked me who I was rooting for and I said , "The Mets"! "Humph, they're terrible", was his reply!

I'll throw Fred Powell's name into the mix. Pretty sure he was instrumental (😹 ) in designing the Conn Vintage One. He has a very loyal following and is growing. He restored a Couesnon flugel for a friend and it sounds better than new. Here's a post from TH with some good info.

He also has a FB page but no website.

    • RE: Thoughts about mouthpiece placement

I can't remember, so I use lots of pressure so I can see were it is supposed to go! Seriously, I'm a boring old 1/3, 2/3 guy like most of us. It feels like it's centered, but I don't think it is!
