Appears to be a transitional model with the mixed brass and silver/nickel slides! Nice cornet!

I wished I liked playing it. I mean it plays like its supposed to but its almost a trumpet. And I am selling it for exactly what I paid for it + $$ I put in to fix it up. Probably You can find one cheaper. Who knows.

I would give it to some kid in a minute but the stupid valve design would be a problem for a kid. It was an ignorant design by Conn. They did a lot of innovation but you would have thought they would move on after 30 or forty years of this design.

That design was made into the late 60's I believe.

Finally found that on iPad, if I resize to square the pics will upload!! 1939 King Silver Tone Master cornet, silver finish with gold accents. Love how this one plays!! All it needed was a clean, and even came with original case and case candy.

That is BEAUTIFUL cornet. I looked at a '37 once but the owner would never give me a price. It had more brass, but the engraving was the same.

Yes, as cbtj51 (I wanted to change the name pretty much right away, but couldn't)! I still visit TH often, but read a post by tobylou8 and then LaTrompeta's original post, followed the lead, and glad I did!

    • RE: Unsafe Sax-To Circular Breathe or Not

I didn't see anything in the article suggesting that the cleanliness of the instrument could be a factor. A sax mouthpiece has got to be relatively more difficult to keep clean than a metal mouthpiece plated in silver.

Great to see we have most of our moderators from TM here... and rumor has it that Rowuk is circulating the site and laying low (as if Rowuk could actually fly under the radar so to speak) as he decides whether or not to add to the cause.

Well...., a "church" needs it's "pastor"!! LOL

There is a youtube of the arrangement we use done by The Coldstream Guards.
The video of suggested exercises you posted is actually slower in tempo than our arrangement of Bogey. I have been playing those in the Bogey march over and over but it sounds spitty and not really sharp. Thanks for you suggestion, though.

Maybe double tonguing will get it done. If this is the part you're talking about at 2:00 then ta-ka ta-ka double tongue is what I'd do. And now I remember playing this arrangement too! It can be a tongue twister for sure!

@GeorgeB said in Exercises for super fast tonguing:

The band I play with is doing a march called Colonel Bogey ( from Bridge On The River Quai ) and the last 66 bars of the march contain a series of four 8th notes played staccato in cut time. My attempts are spitty. Does anyone have a suggested exercise to help develop a nice clean dit dit dit dit.

In my younger playing days I never played marches and at 83 my old tongue just doesn't seem to work that well on the real fast stuff.

What arrangement? I've played it but I don't remember that being in our arrangement. You could go to you tube and play along with these Arbans single tongue exercises. You can go to the setting menu (little gear) and play it at half speed and the pitch stays the same. Here's an example. I would suggest "Tu Tu" for single tonguing.
