The vast majority go for a reasonable price. can usually pick up a decent student grade vintage horn for 50-70 donuts. Anything rare, Recordings, ANY flugal, etc. they get up there fast. One bidder i see often is R+++++3

When they are there one night, i just stop and wait till they are not there. Cause they get MOST of the ones i want. When not online and bidding, i can get them for half of what i would need to pay.

That bidder probably says the same about me;)

Sounds like you used the right approach.

@fels I've been using a Stork Vacchiano 3 for my Selmer high-G picc, but recently I've fallen in love with Ivan Hunter's Jaegerbrass 3M for the purpose. And as a constant go-to I've got the Stomvi Mouthpiece System (one rim, two stems, eight different cups, and you can get a separate extra-lightweight picc stem - either trp or cornet - as well as any number of additional rims and cups...)

Ok, as promised, here's the report from the first concert with the ACB picc.
Read about "Acoustics" - description of the very unconventional hall we played in. Lots of open spaces, lots of glass, two staircases... during rehearsal, sound just vanished. At the performance, the ACB without amp easily filled the hall without effort, blended well with all the brass section of the orchestra (one Lechner Bb, one Cerveny tenor horn, one K&H trombone and a really ancient Lidl tuba). No problem with intonation even after a long wait for it being played - only used in the final piece.
Audience were thrilled, gave us 14 minutes of applause. I'm content.

I tried the Monette leadpipe again. It is about one receiver longer than the Bach, and it fixes the g nicely. Time to cultivate a local American tech to put it on. It will change brace placement for sure. (I had the braces removed Spada does [without the fine tuning] previously.)

As for slide shape, I don't like the edge that comes with the Bach D core. It just sits there and buzzes and there isn't too much ability to color it. Haven't experienced ovate slides on my D yet, but I find my round one gives me a warm, highly compact C sound that I like, kind of like a mythical Gil Johnson D sound. Thinking of moving the bell brace up a bit for more feedback.

Isn't playing with horns fun?

(That's another way of saying "Why didn't it work right out of the factory?")

In answer to the stated question, I can state with high confidence that I am extremely limited on a 3-valve piccolo, or a 4-valve piccolo, or anything higher than an Eb. And the Eb is iffy.
