As anyone used to reading my posts would know that I am a minimalist - I think there's way too much micro-analysing and over-thinking on things trumpet,

So, with that being said - I don't oil my valves individually. Maybe once a week, I blow some oil from my mouthpipe through the entire horn and out the bell. Been doing this since Jr. H.S. and that was a long time ago.

I do think, though, that the oil makes a difference, so use that judiciously. (And even speaking of minimalist oil, for several years my oil was a mixture of 3-in-One oil and White Kerosine. Fuggataboutit.)

      Dr GO

A poem I just found that puts into perspective, Ohio in the winter:

      A WINTER POEM

      It's winter in OHIO
      And the gentle breezes blow
      Seventy miles an hour
      At five below.
      Oh, how I love OHIO
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut.
      Yes,
      The weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
      I could never leave OHIO
Cuz I'm frozen to the ground!

      Word to the wise

On a conn of this quality and this age I would pay attention to protecting the lead pipe from red rot.

I dont think this instrument is suffering from this ailment at the moment but conns are susceptible to it.

Regularly running oil down the leadpipe and regular cleaning and maintenance of this part of the instrument should keep this instrument in tip top condition and playing wonderfully for many decades to come.

Learn the six-note Blues Scale and start playing simple blues with these notes. You'll discover that a basic Blues has only three chords and the Blues scale fits over it very easily.

I started with blues in C, F, G, Bb, Eb and Ab. Amazing that it covered most of what I ever came across in real music. My band has a common warm up exercise. Our piano player picks a key and starts playing. It's up to the players to figure out the key, figure out the progression and play appropriately. I think audiences think we are actually starting our gig at that point. It makes me wonder if we could just do that for two hours and have a pretty nice performance.

I have owned many vintage student horns including a Conn Director Coprion trumpet.
Many of the non professional horns were not taken care of by band students. Never did find the mythical unicorn student horn.
The vintage student horns drastically limited my playing enjoyment.
Yes I regret not buying a professional horn sooner.
Once I bought a professional horn noticed the drastic improvements in sound quality, intonation, projection etc.
Since my comeback I play modern day professional doubler cornets.
One of my cornets is copper colored and the other silver.

The Creole Jazz Band Fake book, available as a free download has what you are looking for. It is available for Bb, C, Eb, Bass Cleff, etc. If you can’t find this on line, contact me with a private message including your email address, and I will send it to you.

We have no connection and we have every connection.

We are distracted by our differences and attracted by our similarities

I see one similarity common to all

We strive for excellence in what we do and we strive to be the best we can be

I am here because my friends and we here are all friends, tolerate me and offer me guidance and a community spirit second to none.

Yes we might disagree but that is driven by the desire to help each other.

Welcome to a wonderful place full of wonderful people

      Long may it prosper

Love Retro mod horns. Comfort is my biggest motivation. If it makes it easier to play I am all for it.
Although I now only play modern horns, have in the past modified several horns. Did not hurt resale price at all.
Owners horn can do whatever they want with it.
