In addition to the Bass Clarinet I see 2 trumpets with tuners on them.

      Regards, Stuart.

BINGO!!!! If these two cats use them.... just sayin'. Thanks for responding. I had forgotten about this awesome video!!

I seem to remember someone saying it's the player not the horn.

Inception to the late 50's were the best years. I believe it coincided with Chet saying, "Martin doesn't make good horns anymore", or something like that.

    • RE: Does a large bore horn take more air?

Just simply because it's large bore? I would say not always. I have a Holton ST-302 that will suck the air out of you and a Blessing Super Artist that won't. Both are .468 bores. My Olds Pinto with the flow-through design will suck the air out of you despite being a medium bore .460. The 302 and SA both have big full sounds and articulation is the same on both for me. The Pinto has a bigger sound than most .460's but the sound isn't focused and is more "duck-like". Articulation is okay, I don't play it that much though. It's an oddity and was cheap, so I bought it.

So, is a Burrito a small Burro?

Or another way of asking this, is a burrito a tight ass [smaller version of a Burro]?

I ate a burrito once and must admit, had to tighten to remain socially acceptable!

It made you have taco to the potty??

I read about instrumental vibrato imitating the human voice, but who's to say that the voice used little or copious vibrato?

What the human voice does is often put into the context of modern reflection. But who is to say that vibrato is natural to the human voice?

Yes, vibrato is natural to the human voice.

Told yah TobyLou!!! If Rowuk says it, it must be so young Grasshopper.

I will stick to my Opera singer that sang at the Met. 💯 💯

Looks like a 22B to me. It would be early by the adjusting rod holder on the tuning slide. Nice horns.

My voice teacher from decades ago said it was not natural unless one had poor breath control! She preached the "Circle of Breath" 25+ years ago!

In listening to Timofei Dokschitzer, I can safely say he does not have poor breath control. And I would say sets an amazing example of "Circle of Breath". Perhaps, just perhaps, your voice teacher was giving you a lot of vibrato?!

Not a chance. She was talking about singing. Vibrato isn't natural is the point even for Timofei (who's MAGNIFICENT!!).

@Tobylou8 I don't think it makes any sense to discuss words. If it will be called 'style' it's in my opinion an ugly style, still copied from Armstrong in the wrong way.

I'm not saying you're right or wrong. I'm just pointing out that's how he played throughout his long career. Is it everyone's cup of tea? No, and that's okay too.

    • RE: Is a $280 New Bach Stradivarius Trumpet too good to be true?

We will see how trade negotiations go and if the $280 Strad stays at $280. My guess is that brass instruments aren't high on the list.
From Dun & Bradstreet: "Imports account for 55% of the US market. The largest supplier to the US is China, which accounted for more than 40% of imports in 2017. .."
This is for all musical instruments, not just trumpets.

Lets not lose sight of the ACB video that was talking about counterfeit Strads. I'm sure Conn-Selmer should have a right to protect their brand from criminals.

    • RE: How do you feel about vibrato?

I just went and listened to Mr. Braff. I would call it style. It's his style and old recordings and "newer" stuff have it and it's pretty consistent throughout. If he didn't use it, I would be surprised.

Well, I'll pitch this idea, in the wrong group, you'll make waves. In the right situation a whole lotta shaking going on.

Chet played a whole bunch of different horns over the years. He kept pawning them to buy heroin.

I sold a piccolo trumpet once to buy a bicycle. Same thing.
