      Bb Brass

      If it's not a sheperds crook cornet, most brass players are not interested. Trumpet is a better trumpet. People want SC cornets that are coupled with deep mouthpieces, making a sonic experience that knocks on the door of the flugelhorn office.

      At this point, I am unsure who the present manufacturer is. You should certainly "try before you buy."

      Using this from TH https://www.trumpetherald.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1367115 and a search on eBay, I'd guess MasterWannabe's 2055T is possibly a 1986-1987 model if it says Eastlake above the serial number, which would be perpendicular to the valve casing, but more likely an early 2000 or later, especially if the serial number is parallel to the casing. There's a claimed 2001 Silver Flair listed with serial number 85XXXX. A trumpet with a serial number starting with a 3 would almost have to have been manufactured in 2000.

      Once again, using the information from TH, Richard III's euphonium appears to be simpler to decipher. 1995-2000 would be my guess, thinking that a letter prefix was used and thinking that an A could have been used for euphoniums instead of the S said to have been used for trumpets at the time.

      I welcome corrections from those more knowledgeable on the subject.

      I think the reason this subject of brand name brainwashing, so to speak, is such an issue with me is because I had a Sears, Roebuck catalog trumpet as I entered High School band. I also was catching up, not having started quite as early as the others. The stigma of playing such a horn did not go unnoticed by me or anyone else. Kids could be cruel, as we know. My band director, thank the Lord, said, this Trumpet is made for Sears by Blessing, and it is a good horn. That was a good thing, since my parents did not consult him or anyone else about it.
      Next thing I knew I was first chair by the time I was a junior, leaving everyone else in the dust!

      @trumpetsplus
      Ivan, I do wish to get as close to a 45 degree angle as I can and I probably try to bend as slowly as I can so as not to break. I guess I can deal with losing the plating if there is no choice and I will just have to re-plate as needed. I do have a wooden pulley that I have modified the groove to follow the flair for, I think, the required distance of the bell for the bend.

      Not quite sure what you are after. The 165F was a UMI horn. Parts for these are available from Conn-Selmer (through an authorized tech). If you want Kanstul parts, Mike Corrigan of BAC bought all their stuff.

      So why do my photos keep appearing "faded"? I have made them under 200K but they show up not in full color.

      @MasterWannabe said in Newby - Need help identifying a Conn Trumpet:

      @Tobylou8 - I will send pics but I won't get to work on this till after the 1st of May after we make our move back to Denver for the summer. Could you tell me how to set up my account to receive notifications regarding responses to threads I wish to follow ?

      Underneath the last post on a page there is a box with a little bell in it. Just make sure the bell doesn't have a strikethrough mark on it and you'll get responses to this thread. You can also get notifications via e-mail daily, weekly or monthly. I have not used that function so cannot tell you if it works.
