Cannonball Trumpets ???
-
Could anyone give me an honest opinion re: Cannonball trumpets from student line to pro models ? I have no experience with them, I know they make good saxes but beyond that I know nothing.

In contrast with the excellent Cannonball saxophones, Cannonball is a name that has been engraved on various trumpet models from different (at least 3) manufacturers over the years, so it is not possible to give an all-embracing opinion of them.

Isn't it Cannonball that has the stones on finger buttons that are supposed to have mystical powers? And don't they engrave the Mormon beehive on their products? I don't care how good they were if these were true, they wouldn't be at the top of my list.

I have played several of their models. I don't much care for the stonelined trumpets. I think their newer line (non-stonelined) are decent trumpets. Depending on the price, you can get a good horn for not much money. They were made by B&S, I'm not sure if that's still the case.
The company is based in SLC, Utah. They are primarily a saxophone maker but their trumpets are decent as well.

I've heard they are made in China now. If you know the Chinese makers, there is Jinbao and Jinyin. Jinyin is making the Lynnzhorn for Lynn Nicholson. I asked a couple of years ago if Hoxon Gakki (CarolBrass) was making them, and the answer was 'No.'

At this point, I am unsure who the present manufacturer is. You should certainly "try before you buy."
