    • RE: What are you listening to?

Since communism and Marxism have taken such a strong foot here in the states I’ve been back to metal.
And back into playing bass guitar

Besson enharmonic trumpet from a local dealers private collection.
      Apparently quite rare.
Unfortunately he has no mouthpiece that adequately fits

      Back to lots of metal.
The bands I was formerly involved with have turns communist. Either with looking for covid immunity proof or on board with CRT.
Obituary never let me down and Max Cavalera got some great new music.
Down with the Marxist machine that is taking over!

    • RE: Hello! Welcome to TB, who are you?

I’m Dennis, I’m a father of 3, a happy husband and loyal employee of the company I work for. I’ve been an electrician for 20 years. Been playing trumpet for 32 years.
Dabbled in rock bands a couple times playing bass.
Nowadays I also play baritone, actually more so than trumpet. I also played cornet for a couple years
I also enjoy kayaking and fishing
I used to be into guns but not anymore
I still pick a flattop now and again
And enjoy gardening, foraging and practice of all types of self sustainability

    • RE: Turning Guns into Trumpets

Hell I got some guns I would trade. I loved my guns in my 20’s and early 30’s. Now in my 40’s I’ve just lost the zeal I once had. I’d actually rather have a Jinbao than some of my guns. Hell I can leave all my trumpets loaded

    • RE: Mouthpiece too large?

I love the 5b for general Bb playing. I don’t believe we should play the smallest piece we can play comfortably......
Unless I guess most of our playing is in the upper range.
I think MP choice should depend on what you’re expected to play. If most of what is expected is in the mid range then a larger piece I feel will give the best sound and flexibility.
Although I’m not a pro, and not even a great amateur. I’m an electrician by trade.

    • RE: Memorable Quotations

      Life’s tough....
It’s even tougher if you’re stupid

      People don’t plan to fail....
      People fail to plan

      You can’t fix stupid

Not sure where any of these come from. Heard them all my life, and now I use them quite a bit. My grandpa said that his grandma use to say the first one when he was a little boy. So it’s at least 150 years old

The second one is something I picked up in middle school from my history teacher

The last is something every new guy is told when he does something stupid

    • RE: Mouthpiece too large?

I think a big mouthpiece is just part of the equation for the desired outcome.
The biggest MP I use is a Wick 4. I can play it just as well as any other MP but it’s the only one that will produce the desired effect on my cornet

    • RE: Opinions on Valve Oils?

I have no clue how long oils last on my valves. I’ve only really ever had issues with blue juice.
In my baritone I put fast on there one day because I forgot my oil (Hetmans 2) and it did not mix well at all!
I oil every time I take it out of the case. I also very often oil before I replace it into the case.
I’d rather not have any problems at all when I play.
When I’ve played 3rd in very large sections it’s not a huge deal but when I sat front row cornet it was a big concern.
Now playing baritone I don’t want to risk anything.

    • RE: Opinions on Valve Oils?

      Preferably Hetmans 2
But anything works fine as long as it’s not Blue Juice
If Holton oil was still a thing I’d still use it. I’ve heard Linzoil is the same but haven’t tried it
