I can barely count correct. As I’ve always struggled with and my Director pointed out in my most recent audition.
So time and space is very important

RE: Good Instruments For Those Starting To Play
Can’t go wrong with the Holton t602 Collegiate!
I remember in HS I got a new !!SILVER!! horn. It was the horn above. Back then it was the exact same horn as the couple guys that had Bach Strads
Trumpets are cheap when it comes to price for an instrument

RE: Different Techniques For Different Instruments?
My cornet with its DW4 will not sound like a trumpet
My trumpet does not sound like a cornet
I do approach each different. The cornet gets used in a British style brass band and the trumpet in a couple community bands.
I could probably plop in a 7c and make the cornet work in community bands but my trumpet even with the 1c I play with it would not fit the BBB -
RE: A little humour
@BigDub
I’ve heard this one told that when the passerby who’d had a beer after work saw this happening pulled over and got in the back of the cruiser. When asked by the cop “what’s going on”? The passerby told the cop “go ahead and take me to jail. I’ll never pass that test. Also no state was mentioned

RE: Mystery Horn
If it’s the ones I’ve seen they’re a Chinese made stencil horn

RE: Holton clarification
@chelpres
My B47 is one of its predecessors. Holton made some great horns -
RE: Buy your horns here, not there!
Another for Austin Custom Brass
Bought a cornet from them and used it in competition weeks later with no worries
Recommended another brand over their house brand-was looking for a budget price professional-ish horn.
Great cornet! Great customer experience!

RE: Best Valves
I’ve always felt that the French style valves of the t/c 6xx Holton Collegiate line to be fantastic!
Frank Holton valves too were very fine
Vintage Blessing.......
very light and fastBest valves are any that I don’t think anything about. Get the horn out, oil up and play. Which apparently boils down to a whole host of different materials and makers.
I honestly can’t really tell the difference if they’re sprung from the bottom or not except maybe that the top sprung seem a bit more precise. But now I’m playing a Besson Sovereign 955 which is bottom sprung but seem as solid as can be though it’s quite different than the horns regularly discussed here

RE: Easy Quiz
Number 4 is a Holton New Proportions long model cornet. Maybe a Couturier model
Getzen deluxe for number one
Number two? Olds Ambassador

RE: What about non-trumpet Brass players
@Jolter
Horns in the BBB setting always seem to have lots of the melodies -
RE: What about non-trumpet Brass players
Today was my first run with the baritone. It is a Besson compensating baritone.
So far so good. I think I’m going to enjoy the change.
I’ll still be playing trumpet in regular band but as for the brass band things are a changing for me.
Maybe one day I’ll try playing bass.
Right now recognizing the pitch is challenging for me -
RE: What about non-trumpet Brass players
I’m going to try a lower brass this season with the brass band. It might be nice to not have join another forum to discuss

RE: Holton clarification
There are also Czech made Holtons. Not that this thread is about that but they were also well made as were al Holtons.
The letter suffixes have different meanings per the letters used. Not all mean other than US made. Some were transitional having parts from the different makers. -
RE: no prayer requests allowed
I can keep positive thoughts for you sir
A prayer from me-a non believer would probably have no merit
I’m sure you’ll do fine and transportation won’t be an issue -

RE: Best Off-brand Trumpets
The Brasspire is definitely not a name brand.....yet! I think for what I paid for it-less than $800 brand new it may not be the best but for a brass bander on a budget it might be a “best” choice brand new. I’ve had a chance to compare it to many others and I feel that it is head and shoulders above the other “off brands”
The Cecilio is the off-est brand there is but.....
I have the top of the line Cecilio. They go for $500 new but I got mine used.
It’s definitely more than a student instrument and is probably worth more if it had a different name. In fact a brand called JZ sells the same trumpet. It’s a Jinbao model. It is versatile in the community band setting and reliable.I think you could do a lot worse than the above two. I have

RE: Best Off-brand Trumpets
I have a Cecilio trumpet and a Brasspire cornet. Both are great instruments

RE: Researching old instruments
When I took Duetsche in HS-I was taught to pronounce ü as make my mouth in the shape to say O but say E
