    • RE: Attracting members who are interested in things musical/trumpet

Maybe this site is already more trumpet and musical geared than once thought.
It’s still a small site with small numbers of membership. New blood would be interesting for sure
Something that made TM look so big to me was the constant talk of gear. A lot of that goes on at TH too. Which may be a big draw since a lot of musicians seem to be gear heads.
I always read the forums for new ideas. I also come to look at gear reviews. I know all the reviews are personal opinions but there’s some real info in the threads collectively
I tend not to post unless I feel I’ve a good question or something helpful to say.
I also only stumbled upon all three sites because of the equipment discussions, so maybe there needs to be more of that.
Maybe a thread could be started where we all can just review or gear, then keywords like brand names will lead searches here. Not just review pro gear either but student and TSO’s should also be mentioned.

Just get whatever 500 eu will get you from Thomann. Pretty much every trumpet is going to sound the same unless you really know how to use them.
Cornets are not easier. They are for the most part the exact same instrument with the exact same skill set. For my playing cornet in a BBB setting, sitting in the 3rd solo spot was the most challenging playing I’d ever done.
Get a basic standard/student model. It won’t let you down. Some pro models take some real know how to play good

    • RE: What happened to Jazz programming?

Hip Hop and the culture that goes with it have killed music!
So many people have been brainwashed by this trash. It has no movement, no key, no musicians, no melody to follow or counter and it is just a steady slow 4/4. Morons could follow it and do. People become morons when exposed to it. Can’t apply the circle of fifths to it
There’s no ABA pattern or anything. It’s been here for ~ 30 years and musical literacy has ebbed off with its rise.
We used to want a stereo that reproduced every little sound in stereo surround............
Then just big speakers that only put out the deepest bass-but not bass guitar or drums or horns but a mechanical frequency
It’s so bad now that lots of people are now again listening to one single speaker. Because there is no substance to reproduce

Some godawful King rental. I think it was a Cleveland standard but it was terrible. Maybe it was just me but even today I don’t care for any of the King that I’ve tried

Not enough people out there that really understand Jazz. It’s like trying to read a service manual to a toddler. So they don’t bother to publish it

    • RE: Its Been an Age Long Requirement But How Many Can Do It?

      Nope. Absolutely cannot!
Can’t even tell you the scale if I look at it. Can’t tell what key a piece is in by looking at the key signature-just have to make a mental note about which notes are affected

Not so vintage but the only actual “horn” so far.
Besson 955 Sovereign. Not my personal instrument, it is band owned. This horn actually gets my most miles. I love playing baritone horn

My 1958 Holton B47. In raw brass. My main use trumpet. Have tried many many new and used trumpets but no temptation to buy as this horn really does anything I need

My long and short Holton New Proportions cornets
Top is a 1909. My favorite cornet of all I have. The pitch slide leaks, you’re seeing the candle wax I use to keep it playable
Bottom is a 1911 Couturier model. I really enjoy this as well

    • RE: New pocket trumpet for me!

Well just to keep it going.
I’ve played only this new Mendini for well I guess the tim of this thread.
Figure I’ll give a bit of a review since none really exist
Seems with all Chinese horns one of the valve stems are not in the center of the cap.
This is the second time a Chinese trumpet came to me where one of the casings were rotated so the valve guide was 30°out from the others
Two different serial numbers stamped on the same casing?
Slides still move quite well as do the valves.
      Gloves don’t fit!

      Just a thought though...
I wonder if they sound as good out front as they do from 8” behind the bell
