RE: Vintage Horn Eye Candy
Besson enharmonic trumpet from a local dealers private collection.
Apparently quite rare.
Unfortunately he has no mouthpiece that adequately fits -
RE: Hello! Welcome to TB, who are you?
I’m Dennis, I’m a father of 3, a happy husband and loyal employee of the company I work for. I’ve been an electrician for 20 years. Been playing trumpet for 32 years.
Dabbled in rock bands a couple times playing bass.
Nowadays I also play baritone, actually more so than trumpet. I also played cornet for a couple years
I also enjoy kayaking and fishing
I used to be into guns but not anymore
I still pick a flattop now and again
And enjoy gardening, foraging and practice of all types of self sustainability -

@Niner

On or about page 100 in the Holton model guide -
RE: Turning Guns into Trumpets
Hell I got some guns I would trade. I loved my guns in my 20’s and early 30’s. Now in my 40’s I’ve just lost the zeal I once had. I’d actually rather have a Jinbao than some of my guns. Hell I can leave all my trumpets loaded

My long and short Holton New Proportions cornets
Top is a 1909. My favorite cornet of all I have. The pitch slide leaks, you’re seeing the candle wax I use to keep it playable
Bottom is a 1911 Couturier model. I really enjoy this as well -
RE: Vintage Horn Eye Candy
My 1958 Holton B47. In raw brass. My main use trumpet. Have tried many many new and used trumpets but no temptation to buy as this horn really does anything I need

RE: Not really a "mouthpiece safari" but the need for a "saving grace" type of mouthpiece...
I’m not a mouthpiece guru or anything like that or even a good amateur but I do play in a few bands and play more than one brass instrument
I’ve played a 10 1/2c and a Schilke 14A4 and a so called cushion rim mouthpiece.
I found that endurance is easier on a bigger diameter/cup dimension and a more open throat. I think really good breathing and relaxing go way further in endurance and range than any shape or size mouthpiece.
Another thing I’ve been guilty of the sops up energy and kills range is holding back. Really blow and be heard. Your trumpet is not as loud in front of it 4 yards out as it is to you behind the bell 19”-20”.
Kinda like playing a guitar gig. You gotta move your amp away from you to really hear yourself but you can’t move your horn so.....
You gotta relax and breathe and blow -
RE: Favorite Cornet
Apparently many old cornets were designed in this manner to be fine tuned on the fly.
My Arbans book I think explains the use of the slide using the thumb on the right hand -
RE: Vintage Horn Eye Candy
1943 EK Blessing Artist. First cornet I ever bought. My oldest son is using it this year for beginning band

Both up coming brass band competitions have been canceled

RE: What happened to Jazz programming?
Hip Hop and the culture that goes with it have killed music!
So many people have been brainwashed by this trash. It has no movement, no key, no musicians, no melody to follow or counter and it is just a steady slow 4/4. Morons could follow it and do. People become morons when exposed to it. Can’t apply the circle of fifths to it
There’s no ABA pattern or anything. It’s been here for ~ 30 years and musical literacy has ebbed off with its rise.
We used to want a stereo that reproduced every little sound in stereo surround............
Then just big speakers that only put out the deepest bass-but not bass guitar or drums or horns but a mechanical frequency
It’s so bad now that lots of people are now again listening to one single speaker. Because there is no substance to reproduce -
RE: Best Off-brand Trumpets
I have a Cecilio trumpet and a Brasspire cornet. Both are great instruments
-
RE: Vintage Horn Eye Candy
Another acquisition
A 1905 Frank Holton New Proportions. I really love these cornets -
RE: Let's Have Some Fun!
I personally enjoy the natural trumpet selections on this piece. Something just fits better

RE: Best Off-brand Trumpets
The Brasspire is definitely not a name brand.....yet! I think for what I paid for it-less than $800 brand new it may not be the best but for a brass bander on a budget it might be a “best” choice brand new. I’ve had a chance to compare it to many others and I feel that it is head and shoulders above the other “off brands”
The Cecilio is the off-est brand there is but.....
I have the top of the line Cecilio. They go for $500 new but I got mine used.
It’s definitely more than a student instrument and is probably worth more if it had a different name. In fact a brand called JZ sells the same trumpet. It’s a Jinbao model. It is versatile in the community band setting and reliable.I think you could do a lot worse than the above two. I have
