      Re: You know "those moments"?

Deliberately not replying to any post in particular, one or two of our members may benefit from a little background info on the St Petersburg/Leningrad Philharmonic.

      http://guilhermebernstein.com/UR/cambridge_companion_to_the_orchestra_2003.pdf

Scroll down to the relevant section starting page 134.

Other than the during the siege, it seems that members of the orchestra had both the means and opportunities to obtain in principle, any instrument they needed.

If you can't spare a week of your life, the course compendium is not a bad read either:

Do not regret this purchase at all.

It is a magnificent instrument and beyond anything I have or could aspire to.

It will I am sure move you to a place in your playing and development where you and your audiences have huge satisfaction and enjoyment.

We all look back on our decisions and are tempted to question them but I firmly believe that we make the best decisions we can when we make them, this is therefore the best decision you could have made.

This is a great instrument and it can help you achieve greatness.

      Richard III

@Dale-Proctor Sometime ago I was helping clean out my brother-in-law's storage unit. There I see an Olds Ambassador cornet in a case. It belonged to my nephew when he was in middle school or something like that. I took it home and had it cleaned and straightened. For the last few months it has been sitting by my side in my practice room. It does everything I could ask a horn to do and it does all that easier than all my other horns. It sort of feels like I don't need the twenty something trumpets and cornets I have sitting around. Who knew a little cornet like that would be that great.

The price asked for is a bit very steep for it, though.

Great, Doc. All that was good to know. I had a chance to buy a Super but felt it was overpriced and chose the Recording instead. Absolutely no regrets. Somedays I have a hard time putting the Recording away for the day. I just want to keep on playing.

      @barliman2001 Love it

Dreams are often in a different place to where we think they are.

Columbus had a dream and it was not where he thought it would be. The result of his folly was the discovery of the New World and the Mayflower.

We are chained to our aspirations we are fenced in by our expectations we are restricted by our desires.

I have never limited myself to whatever I am expected to achieve and because of this I have exceeded my own limited expectations.

I was condemned at school for being a dreamer. I believe it was the best part of me. I have excelled and exceeded in all things because of my dreams.

The founding fathers dreamed of a place where they could be whatever they wanted to be.

President Lincoln dreamed of freeing the Nation of the scourge of Slavery.

Dr Martin Luther King dreamed of a nation who would collectively judge a man not by the colour of his skin but the content of his soul.

President Kennedy gave the Nation a dream and the moon landings were the result.

The result of Dr Kings dream was the election of President Obama.

The world is not perfect and we are not perfect beings but all we need is our dreams and the courage to act upon them and we can make the world a better place.

The very best things we have are our dreams. They take us if we have the courage to follow them, beyond our feeble existence into a world of beauty and new capabilities beyond our wildest imagining.

      Long may they continue.

I really enjoyed that video. Makes you want to pull up stakes and move there. The young people are terrific dancers. They were probably dancing like that in their cribs.
The rhythm of the entire video was fantastic.

I have an EasyPlay cornet. Plays quite nicely. Same logo - shiny plate in satin background.
