@Bertie I'm really happy to get advice from a number of great players, including you.πŸ˜„ I think that the important things I learned from the information from everyone are "do not start the exercise with the piccolo trumpet" and "do not practice for a long time with the piccolo trumpet". At the end of this month I will get a piccolo trumpet. I would like to start practicing based on your wonderful advice. Thank you.🎺

I was not contemplating, or even interested, in playing a piccolo, but I did find it quite interesting in reading about those here who do play it, especially Robin and Bertie.

Which picc are you going to get? Did you have help in choosing it?

@barliman2001 My college friend recently got a schilke P7-4GP. So he decided to sell me the P5-4SP he had been using until now. He took good care of it so it's in good condition(he said). It is a vintage of the late 70s and the serial number is No.8527.πŸ˜„

Can't find fault with that choice.

@barliman2001 I was relieved. 😊 I'm looking forward to getting it from now on. By the way, can you help me with a mouthpiece consultation? What I use for Bb and C trumpets is Warburton top: 3D back bore: 5B. For British Cornet, I use the top: 2MBC back bore: BC8β˜†. If possible, I would like to choose from Warburton's for Piccolo.

I am not too familiar with Warburton's mouthpiece sizes. Usually, I recommend staying with the same rim size as the "normal" mouthpiece, but use a much shallower cup. A few people will now be saying, "not* again*!" when I recommend the Stomvi Mouthpiece system; but they really have perfected the art of the variable mouthpiece: one rim, two or three stems and up to seven different cups. And you can always add to the basic system with specialist rims and stems (and, of course, cups). They even have a special lightweight picc stem.

Maybe a troll that was not successful in getting us riled up...
Or better: someone with a life and the trumpet in proper perspective
Or: ran to his teacher and explained what he understood - pissing the teacher off, who told him never to come back
Or: an internet Zapper with a 2 day attention span but no identity.

If someone needs to change their name, we must ask why - do they fear that we will google it and discover wherelse they visit? Pretty naive to believe that the name change is good for anything...

This is a person under amazing stress. This person needs help and for someone who understands, to listen, to hear. But to all of our members here at TB, I strongly urge, do not engage in any way with A-Former-User.

Hey @barliman2001, I am curious about this. For a beginner like me, is there any advantage to be gained in getting different mouthpiece sizes now, or should I just keep going with what comes with the new trumpet?

How does the trumpet sound with the current mouthpiece? I have found there to be many advantages but more with the back end related to the gap. This function is more brand dependent than size dependent.

For me, rim size and rim shape are all-important. If the rim is ok, I can work with different cup sizes. And brand for me is a nullity - some of the mouthpieces I like best are el cheapo A&S Bach copies.

I am playing it so rough at best! I am going to say it sounds fine to me - kinda in tune with the video tutorials and on pitch on Tonestro.
