Hi,
I have this item that is marked Buzzit by Jack Holland. Measures 7 1/2" long x 4" tall. Can't find any information about it. Hoping someone here can help, and fill me in on its age and how it works and just what it is?
Thanks!

It's a Buzzit.

Seriously, just using the mouthpiece by itself will be more effective and develop lips better by holding a towel at the end of the mouthpiece.
Tongue in Cheek at this point: I call this assembly the Towlit. I can sell that to you for a fraction of the price of the Buzzit.

Quite obvious its a BUZZIT! Duh!
I just want to know more about it. Like age, what you do with it, and is it worth anything? Never seen one, that is why I'm seeking some help here! -
Jack Holland, the Pitch Finder guy, put these out. On his death the products were taken over by his friend, one of my customers. It is a practi\ce device for buzzing and fingering which has since been copied and marketed by several people. The latest of these is the Sandovalve.

Instructions are on the plaque: "Do not touch."

Seriously, it's one of those gizmos many people buy in the earlier stages of their development as trumpet players. It MAY help some people in developing lip/finger coordination; but in my experience, it's so far removed from an actual trumpet that you are better off with a good practice mute. Since I got my Sandovalves (yes, I plead guilty to that) in the first or second year of my playing ("Heck, something with Arturo Sandoval's name on it MUST be good"), I've noticed that after the initial hot phase, the thing began lying about until my wife firmly advised me to "put that ugly thing away". Which I did. It must still be there - haven't seen it for ages. Whereas my trusty Denis Wick practice mute is a constant in my gig bag.

Yeah, none of those gadgets for me. I know a lot a people will disagree with me, but I don't even buzz. I found the time is better spent with the horn on my face.

Always love GeorgeB comments as we almost always agree. Once again, his advice is well served. I find buzzing adds nothing when you have a trumpet available to put your mouthpiece on.
THE ONLY TIMES I buzz is when I need to practice an have no trumpet available, such as on a Disney Cruise where they will confiscate your instrument if you bring it on board.

Thank you Trumpetsplus, for actually answering the question at hand. Very helpful and much appreciated!
I DON'T play the trumpet. I found this little gizmo at an estate sale and found it quite interesting. Thought I'd see if I could found out a bit of info as my internet search turned up nothing. I figure it had to be somewhat rare.
-
@tornado1957 Think of it as a treadmill for the lips.
-
@tornado1957 If you don't play, why don't you start?
-
Well I turn 64 years young in July, guess its never to late to learn something new...so ya just never know!

I'm sure you could sell it. It's kind of a neat little novelty.

@tornado1957 So you're a youngster compared to a friend of mine who started trombone at the ripe age of 78. No previous brass background, and now, four years later, he' s solo bone in his community band... He started to play after his wife of 52 years of marriage left him for a 34-year-old plumber...

The latest iteration of the buzzit:

This one would be definitely focused to hitting sharps.
