      What's a "guilty pleasure" piece for you? Sometimes I get Herb Alpert in my head!

        ABBA would be my guilty pleasure, if I felt guilty about enjoying music for the masses. I love the lush, often complex arrangements, naively simple lyrics written by non-native English speakers and over-use of video FX which were pretty fancy at the time.

          When I was a kid, there was a group called "The A-Teens" that did Abba remakes. I really liked them.

            When stress gets oppressive, I listen to New Age music. I find it on Sirius/XM Spa Channel 68.

              @administrator you know a band is really successful when it's tribute bands become an industry. We have two such acts in Australia - BABBA and Bjorn Again (great name!). The latter has become a franchise with several iterations touring in better times. Both put on a great show, sending up themselves and the wonderful silliness of tribute bands.

                That makes me think of the entire industry of Elvis impersonators in Las Vegas.

                  @administrator In my darker moments I repeatedly go to March to the Scaffold and Mars-Bringer of war, but increasingly I am listening to people like Amii Stewart-Knock on Wood, Eruption- I can't stand the rain (who mentioned eye candy?), Earth Wind and Fire and almost anything from the Motown/Stax labels, Temptations-Pappa was a Rolling Stone,Joan Osbourne-What becomes of the broken hearted and Wilson Pickett Sam and Dave Otis Redding et al.

                    I like to listen to recordings of the middle school bands that I taught playing Christmas music this time of year. But I don't feel guilty about it.

                      Another vote for ABBA, but I still listen to the Monkees occasionally.

                      Nearly as good as I need to be. Not nearly as good as I want to be).

                        (Almost) anything by Vivaldi. It's usually fairly happy and undemanding listening. Vivaldi's day job was as the music teacher at an orphanage, so many of his more routine pieces were written to be performed by ensembles of non-professional musicians at the orphanage. To paraphrase an old car ad: "It won't knock your socks off, but it won't knock your hat off either." When I get a little tired of Vivaldi, then ABBA.

                                My guilty pleasure lately has been the Dave Koz Christmas album. I went to see the show live, and it was super fun! First time I ever saw the horn players out play the guitarist! Rick Braun is an amazing player!

                                      @tjcombo - that's a favourite of mine, too.

                                      I actually got hooked on this stuff when I was working disco/soul bands in Germany. After an evening of playing loud, high-energy tunes, I would enjoy driving through the peaceful countryside at 01:00 or 02:00 in the morning listening to this. At first, it was just tongue-in-cheek, but it became a perfect way to come down before getting home.

                                        In Germany we have E music and U music. E stands for „Ernst“ or serious and U stands for „Unterhaltung“ or entertainment.
                                        I love a language that supports the fun side of music.

                                        No guilt, all pleasure! Maybe I felt a little guilty when buying a recording of John Cages 4‘33“...
