@SSmith1226 i just love watching and listening to him play - my goal (posted here is https://trumpetboards.com/topic/695/new-player-has-entered-the-game?page=1) - an octave lower of course - is still a work in progress but I do like to "play" along where i can.

I think my version of play along would be more butchering rather than playing a tribute TBH ....

I only started playing during the lockdown, so while i loved Mr Morricones music, i didnt really know of Mr Giufreddi - I do now and i would love to see him play live if at all possible when we are out of this

I am really into Bousquet's Studies. Have spent about 6 weeks on them. They are not the hardest studies out there. That honor (for me) might go to Saint Jacome's 12 Grand Artistic Studies.

But I believe if you wanted to you could work on them for months and months. They contain everything. Any of numbers of different time signatures, wierd metering, Everything from Key of C to 5 flats or 5 sharps. Accidentals all over the place. Lots of Turns, mordents, and grace notes. Just love them. And the beauty is written in 1851. Just amazing etudes (to me)

It sounds like it is meant to be played first, and after the wonderful experience I am enjoying, it just makes perfect sense.

I don't mind the new format, but Kehaulani has a good point. It'd be easier to read if the text were darker and the signatures were lighter -- just reverse them.

Somebodt on the oTHer site suggested I try Noteflight. i saved my Sib files as .mid and imported them to NF. It gave me recordings with a nice, straight sound. Most helpful in acclimating to my "new"
Olds Recording.

As always, Robin, I look forward to, and cherish, any input you have on interesting subjects such as scales. They have done, and continue to do, so much to help me play the trumpet, especially now that I am in my mid-80s and finding it tougher to play well each new year.

@kehaulani All good suggestions. The Niehaus looks interesting, but I'd have to transpose the etudes and I really want to spend that time playing. I have quite a few Aebersold albums including Nothing But Blues. I do not have #42. I also have all volumes of the Rich Matteson/Jack Peterson play along recordings that we used in class with the book that goes along with them, the Rich Matteson Flexibility and Improv Patterns book, and a large number of transcriptions of various artists.

What I am looking for is a book of good basic blues solos to use as practice etudes.

You get it.

Slur everything first, then tongue each exercise. Or reverse, tongue then slur.

This builds the ring muscles quite nicely.

Would the "ring muscle" be the wedding band finger of my wife, when she flicks me on my head for sounding such a putrid note on my trumpet?

Now that was really interesting. I use P.E.T.E. and the end of each day and now I will add Fish Face. I tried it as he was talking and I could feel its effect immediately. Thanks for that, Steve.
