Those are two good reasons for any problems you may be having, sir.
Right now I am trying to play on only 2 front teeth when my embouchure was used to much more than that, so I am now dealing with a cranky embouchure. Once I have the dental work done at least I will be playing with a new partial that hooks on to exixting teeth to keep it in place, and I am already used to that. But another change for the embouchure. Oh, well it will all work out.

I get what you are saying, Wayne. I am one of those players who don't look like they are playing. I use only the tension necessary to get the job done. And if I can't hit a high note easily, I drop an octave.

Wow, Doc, the Recording sounds great but in this case it is because of the man blowing the notes. You are an amazing player, Doc. I can never make the Recording sound the way you do....👍

Mine was from the mid-60's. I believe TMD's is from the late 50's. His is a nice horn as well.

I have a pair of Ambassadors. A trumpet and cornet, both from 1957. Both are nice horns, well made, great valves, good core. I'll leave the student horn vs pro horn debate to others. I'll just say I like them, but they are not my go-to horns.

I had my 1957 trumpet refurbished by Kanstul. Gary had his Ambassador fully "pimped out".

For me the very thought of losing my eyesight is terrifying. I have been dealing with Glaucoma for the last 20 years. Drops keep the pressure at an acceptable level, but there was nerve damage to my left eye before they found I had Glaucoma. That damage causes weird things to happen, but I have learned to live with it.

I have so much respect for you, kehaulani. You have gone through hell and no one should ever have to deal with even an eighth of what you have. You have so much knowledge of music, and I know how much it must hurt to be unable to play the trumpet when things get bad for you.
I hope and pray that your health will improve enough for you to get back on the horn.

Hi, shifty, the 5X rim is similar to an ACB 5CS I had been using, only smaller so it is no problem. The rim offers the same support as the ACB 5CS and that is great.

I returned to band practice last night and played about 105 minutes straight. Lots of tough tunes with much above the staff playing as well. I hadn't been able to play that long in a year so the Denis Wick London 5X is sort of a miracle. And I do believe the shallow cup is also helping me get my range back as I played D above high C for the first time in a year. I used a Bach New York 10.5C gold rimmed mp between 1953 and 1965 so have a gold Wick is really nice. My lips don't slip on gold.

As always, Robin, I look forward to, and cherish, any input you have on interesting subjects such as scales. They have done, and continue to do, so much to help me play the trumpet, especially now that I am in my mid-80s and finding it tougher to play well each new year.

Yes, I could tell she used the phwoooooo embouchure right from the outset. The shape of her mouth and lips is similar to Chris Martin's and have the forward push look.

This is just a slightly off-topic comment, but in general, I'm against circular breathing unless for a special effect. I feel music needs space to emphasize phrasing and without it, it can become monotonous.

If it's for pre-written music that has no place to breathe, to me, that's on the composer/arranger. It's a WIND instrument.
