I've been reading this thread but because I don't consider myself a high range player ( and actually don't aspire to be one ) I have kept silent until now. I agree with much of what FranklinD has written here, especially about Sound Advice/Lionel. In some of his early posts at TH, I actually believed that Lionel was who and what he claimed to be, but where Lionel's BS starts to show in in his long winded posts. The more he talks the more nonsensical he begins to sound. When challenged to prove his achievements by providing the forum with a video or recording of himself he came up with a lame excuse. I will continue to follow this thread for entertainment, but honestly, I can't take it seriously even though I have a great deal of respect for the posters...with the exception of Mr. Sound Advice.

RE: Artist on BOARD
Wayne's( BIG DUB ) latest work of art. He is locked out and asked me to post this for him, along with his comments. It is a sweeping panoramic landscape painting oozing life.
This painting is inspired by Wayne's local surrounding area of New Jersey.
" A real scene with some artistic licenses taken by me, of course, " said Wayne. -

Very interesting, Steve. Living up to responsibilities, well that says a lot about the man, doesn't it. -

Great find, Kehaulani. That will give me something to do after I finish practice tomorrow morning. Thanks so much for posting. -
RE: A Gustav Holst Flash Mob Moment
Such a beautiful piece of music made even more beautiful the way the musicians come together. I have seen this video before and it always moves me tremendously.

@Dr-GO
I'm certainly well aware of Chris Botti. Love his work. -
RE: Current Italian trumpet sensation
I did a discography check on him and it seems his first album was in 2000 and has 20 or so released to date, so I'd say he is doing fairly well for a newcomer. I'm going to check Amazon to see if his albums are available in Canada.
Here he is playing a lovely version of The Nearness Of You :

RE: The New Reality
Thank you, that was so inspiring in a time when it is hard to be inspired by anything.

@ACB that being said, I’d like to be as good as you, but while still being me ️
Ahh...to play like Trent...I wouldn't mind losing myself a bit in his case...even if for only a day....

RE: Current Italian trumpet sensation
Yeah, I agree. If anything, his sound is a little closer to Chet Baker than Miles, but really, I feel Fabrizio has a style of his own and I like it. The thing is , I think you can be influenced by other players without necessarily sounding like them. In my case I loved how well Louis, Harry, Bobby Hackett, Al Hirt and a few others, played but never really wanted or expected to sound like them, with the exception of maybe Harry. And in my younger years I may have emulated him a bit, but these days I work on trying to be as unique as possible.

I would add “Fever” to your list. I posted a YouTube play along Trumpet version two days ago on the topic, “Covid-19 Closing Down Music Venues” that you might like.I'll check that out, Steve. I've played it a few times back in the 50s at weddings and whatnot.

I’ve started practicing more. Working on those boring long tones that I’ve been ignoring for so long.
I've been using the same long tone exercise as a warm up for my afternoon tune session ever since I started by comeback around this time in 2016. They only take about 5 minutes. Boring, yes, but I treat them as a necessity in helping me keep my tone the way I like it.

I won't be bored by band suspension
The one thing I love to do is play the old standards. I haven't had a lot of extra time to do that up until now because the band's MD had been introducing a lot of new material for many upcoming spring and summer concerts. So now I am getting back at playing the kind of material I really love the most. Here is a short list of some of the songs I will be performing over the next few days. Are any of your favorites here ?

RE: Memory Lane
It's on PBS every Saturday here. I watch it because Welk had a lot of damn good musicians in his band and some really talented singers, too. But Welk himself was a bit on the corny side in my view anyway. But hell, it is the only commercial big band music on tv these days.

RE: Community Band
My dropping out of the band started something. The band, after others supporting my decision said they will drop out, has suspended operations for an undetermined period. I feel better not being alone in my decision. But life is going to be boring for awhile. However, I will continue to practice mornings and plays songs in the afternoons as always.
