I'm a dinosaur, Steve. I threw my cell phone in the garbage when I retired 20 years ago..and with good reason. Today I only own and use a basic desktop computer.

And what then, a land-line phone?

What about the classic tin cans connected by metal wire?

The real good news is I am playing in a club tomorrow night with a trio, and using social distancing. That is technology that I understand and can work with!

I am in the process of doing this with one of the big bands I play with. The leader sent us a click count file and we were to play against the rhythm laid down initially and then record on our audio files, then send the audio recording to the leader and he would splice into the composite recordings he receives. I have heard the developing additions and it works well, the only problem, is I do know for the life of me, how to record my part on my laptop at the same time that I am running the click count program. I have a call in to the band leader to call back and tutor me through the process.

In the UK the lockdown is still in place. No one knows if rehearsals and shows will even be back on by Christmas. With no reason to practice I must admit to a lack of motivation. I’m not sure I’m that bothered by it either. I might just sell my stuff and retire. Who knows?

No don't do that! You have wonderful equipment (your horns too)!

Life will be renewed. Stick with it sir! Music is healing yes? If in a year or so you want to reassess, then that would be fine, but if you give these up prematurely it will be harder and likely more of a hassle to replace them.

Staying in shape is a process... We need to find larger spaces to practice in.... Player/horn->room->ears/brain. We are creatures of habit.

The biggest space to fill in the process of staying in shape I would argue... is the mind.

...the exact preparation of the brass alloy used, the exact methods used e.g. bending with lead. Even if you did duplicate.

AND that would be impossible with Federal restrictions place on lead content in brass that was in effect post 1952.

I just need to make the change. I think I can do that tonight.

No problem, I don't need change for my contribution. More to come after I pay of Uncle Sam in mid-July.

And see... This is what I mean... We are back in the saddle again in Ohio. Just called by the drummer to play with what was originally billed as a trio. So the gigs are spilling in for June:

... anytime you want to sit in on trumpet, you're more than welcome to do so. 🙂

      Mike

Sure you want me coming spewing trumpet spittle? Perhaps will come with protection as below:

Substituting trumpet for bear bottle... but can do both you know!

Sorry I haven't changed it yet.

No rush... I'll just have to keep giving, but until then, I will enjoy the ads.🤑

This would suggest it is not like the original Committee. Greasy slotting was the beauty of that horn.

The second generation came after the war and is scary-loose, but has the same amazing tone as the original.

Yes, this (2nd generation) is the one I have the experience with. And sorry, I did not mean to imply the newer version was not a Committee. I truly believe you that it is.

Hmmm.... Still getting ads. But no problem. So just thinking of it, could you put an ad in for my practice. Something like... Dr. Go, specializing in trumpet related ailments. Guaranteed to provide the best in lip service.

I love my Adams F3 with gold brass bell... I also own a Martin Committee flugel, but wouldn’t gig with it unless the F3 was out of commission.

Very envious flugelgirl. How I would love to try both! Love to hear how easy the Adams F3 plays!

I've starting playing outdoors with my trio this month. We had our second gig today, which we livestreamed, and used to raise money for local causes. My first real post-COVID gig (unless things change) is early July. It will be an outdoor gig.

      Mike

Mike, I was there for the first one AND JUST LOVED IT. Don't get me wrong as your piano playing is superb, but I would have loved to have heard you on more trumpet. Perhaps if you need help, you can fly me out your way and I will cover the trumpet while you play the keyboard, right?

Had no problem playing the church performance as the version of the Handel I played the month before shut down when very well. I believe my practice routine has my performance requirements well under control. This is reassuring as I never know when a gig will be coming my way at any time as the union is always surprising me.

I have played the deluxe version and found that horn to slot much like the original but perhaps a tad bet brighter.
