RE: Brass Quintet Direction
In all the professional quintets I have played with, they all had a director that was a separate person from the quintet performers. As in any formal classical ensemble, the quintet followed the recommendations of the director of the sessions.

- Despite the name, I have no connection to this product, company, principals, employees, nor associates, other than finding their website a few minutes ago.
Just noted that! Well I guess the walls can come tumbling down from more than one direction!

RE: Accessories for the Other End of the Horn
And while you are using items for your bell, I have had amazing experience and success with this microphone system that is wireless and so easy to use with any mixer. The one I use is (shown below) is mounted from the leadpipe, but Applied Microphone Technology (AMT) has a bell clip version as well:

Just saw this advertisement on my Facebook page. Does anyone have this and does it actually work?

RE: Chet on Commitee?
Looks like a Committee in many ways.
Bell bracing looks like the Committee:
No tuning slide bracing
And this pic of the water keys at 4:35 is the classic "trombone" Committee Style:

RE: So, how's your Fourth?
@flugelgirl said in So, how's your Fourth?:
I actually didn’t have a gig this year, and it’s a good thing because I was sick with the flu all week! I stayed home and comforted the critters - multiple fireworks shows close by made them unhappy.
Wish you a speedy recovery.
We had to hug our Schnauzer a lot as well with all the fireworks going off in the neighborhood. So I can understand, and when being ill, it probably takes even more out of you. Hang in there!!! Drink a lot of fluids, DO NOT take aspirin!

RE: So, how's your Fourth?
Mowed the lawn, swept the patios and pulled weeds. But have plans for late afternoon to smoke burgers, brats and hot dogs in my Big Green Egg. Then the top goes off of my Jeep and we put the dog in the car and head out to Englewood for fireworks. No playing today. Just relaxation with the Missus and Man's Best Friend. One version of an American Celebration.
Happy 4th of July from one Gary to another!

...We even have black bear, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, skunks, and an over abundance of white tailed deer. The number one killer of Americans is not Black or Grizzly Bears, Coyotes, or even Sharks. It's the White Tailed Deer.
Let's grill venison for the 4th and save Americans and America.
Now you have herd my bias.Happy 4th Y'all!

RE: Does anybody want to talk trumpet?
As to the question (seriously) on bore sizes. Does it really matter? I mean, when the vibration hits the leadpipe, what effect on sound does bore size really have? Now resistance... that would be impacted. But does resistance in itself effect the sound?
I do believe the backbore length makes more sense as it impacts on the gap and the coordination of the sound wave amplitude as it hits the leadpipe, but not sure how the bore effect would change things, [other the breathe holding effect on influencing the oxygenation of hemoglobin].

I heard of a Wah Wah mute, but a Meow Meow mute?
And once the "cat is out of the beg", how does it insert into the bell? -

May I suggest changing over to trumpet. Dents are more easily fixed.
Would loan him one of my own, but I too am a shellfish kinda guy! -
RE: Best ebay description I have seen in a long time!
Very true, I have a Taylor Chicago 46 Magnum Max, at just over 4 lbs the heaviest horn I own, played it at a couple of gigs and a week long music camp, Got it out last week and found I could not hold it up for more than 30 seconds.
Regards, Stuart.
Not my experience at all. I have had my Harrelson Summit now for a year and a half and it feels as comfortable as ever. It plays as softly and as sweet as any horn I own, that is if I let it. Because like a well tuned sports car taken out on the open road, you can really open it up at an instant.
But maybe that's because I weight lift!
