@Kehaulani said in Rock, Pop, Classic 70's "Horn Bands" from back in the day?:
How's this?
Ah yes, very NICE
However, here is a cut in the days just after the band replaced David Clayton Thomas as their singer. They start this cut by first performing a Carol King song called "Snow Queen" that then morphs into "Maiden Voyage". This was a great album that was probably more jazz than the audience wanted back then and thus was more of a forgotten album. On the Maiden Voyage transition, the guitarist soloist sings along with his improv, at a time before we heard George Benson using that technique. Truly innovative

@Dr-GO Yes, I do browse the site from time to time. I do happen to be busy with many things (performances and preparing for a master class) that keep me away from casual computing.
Keep practicing!

The BEST advice you could give me.... as always! Will do sir!

Sure, sure, if you are talking the range of Bb, I'm in!

We’ll have to start a list in this thread of horns that fit an average budget that members can attest to quality (like the suggestions in the posts above).
Screw the budget! Get the kid the easiest horn ever built to be the first horn they ever play.... The Harrelson Summit!

Monette mouthpieces are gold plated, and while I was a skeptic before I became a customer, I’m now sold.
My Harrelson 5 mm is gold plated. 5 mm and Gold, the best of both worlds!
The Brits did it fairly well too with horns. This is a band I grew up with in my formative years. Learned a lot about horn arranging and voicing from this band when transcribing horn parts!

"June is busting out all over, I guess", to which the other one said, "what’s the other ones name?"
I know, I know. Leave it to the Beaver, it's [June] Cleavage!
By the way, did you know "Leave it to Beaver" that was first TV show censored for sexually explicit content.
Yes, it was the episode when June approached Ward at breakfast and stated:
"You were a little hard on the Beaver last night!"
And A Merry Christmas Time is Here offering from last week's big band gig:

@Dr-GO what is the mouthpiece on your pocket trumpet?
It's a 1946 Martin 10. Very flat cup, very long shaft. It somehow makes that Pocket Trumpet sing!

@kehaulani said in Hetman. What's up?:
I've mostly switched to B.E.R.P. too. What I like about Hetmann is its various grades.
Are you aware that BERP comes in 3 different viscosities numbered 1, 2 and 3 ? The 3 is quite heavy and great for some older horns.
George
I believe it also comes in a 5, known as Belch
Of course the "classic" is the "Blues Brothers". But yesterday, while I was buying a sandwich at the "Little Store" in my neighborhood, the owner Eric Jerardi asked if I would be interested in joining his band. I said absolutely I would like to try this out. Anyway, here is a cut from his recent album "Eric Jerardi" in which he added horns to his tunes:

Don’t you mean Schlub? Schagerl is in Mank, Austria, and I believe George Schlub moved back to Ohio from Singapore.
Ooops... yes I do. I will do the appropriate edits. Thanks Dr. Smith!

@Dr-GO It sounds cool.
Some instrumentals to show off the band individuals would be fun as well.
Keep us in the loop
Now you're talking! And will do.
I just registered. Will be proud to be playing with many of you on Monday.
That it sounds, feels good and is free blowing. I have the business provide several mouthpiece brands to interchange to assure a best match is first found before setting the horn through a real test run. What I play is various jazz tunes by memory. I recommend a ballad to play with tone and control, a be-bop tune to test valves and responsiveness and horn flexibility. Play in several ranges to assure intonation issues that may come out at different ranges for the horn.
