I do the same as Mike. The technique recommended by two out of two physicians.

My mother stipulated that no in-laws be involved when sharing her stuff...
Yeah but you mother never stipulated out-laws. And I still have all your stuff, agreeable or not.
And Butch, I too wish you healing thoughts as you work though this loss.

RE: Dr. Mark, now A Former User
Tmd is a physician. He is double boarded in internal medicine and emergency medicine. He also works in a university setting but more focused toward a clinical position. He is a gifted musician as well, multi-talented, and was honored as well by visiting him on several occasions, and once invited to sit in with his band at a club they play at regularly on the weekends.

RE: Jerome Callet has Passed Away
A real loss for the trumpet community. My thoughts go out to his family in this loss.
I met him personally after a lesson with Claudio Roditi. Claudio took me to his studio at the conclusion of one of our lessons, after we discussed mouthpieces influences on sounding of the trumpet. Jerome hand lathed a custom mouthpiece for my Olds Recording on the spot. He first identified a cup that worked best for me, had me play my horn, then took it to his lathe to work on the back bore. He did this 5 times going back and forth between my horn and his lathe. He did not charge me a dime for his expertise or his time!

RE: Valve oils
I only know of Carling Black Label beer. It's not a valve oil, but if you consume enough when playing, you will be less concerned as to the action the valves.

As far as a low-noise policy, aren't there other rooms in the facility that you can use?I used a Yamaha Silent mute when I had my 3 week stay in the hospital, several days of which were in the ICU. Nurses had no problems with me playing.

RE: Covid-19 updates from ACB
Jim is an amazing friend and honored The Eddie Brookshire Quintet with several performances over the years. These have been tough times for club owners, and this amazing customer helps sustain such venues with generous contributions such as this $3,000 tip for a $6,50 beer!

Been playing my Ambassador every day this week out on my front porch of the cabin I have in Gatlinburg serenading Mt Leconte on just one application of oil I used on Monday.

@dr-go I thought your avatar had a "ring" to it.
Yes. My TM avatar was my original design for a "Music in Medicine" symposium I helped develop for a medical school lecture series.
Then I used that design to send to Jason Harrelson to insert as a brace in my tuning slide of my Summit. The avatar version I use here on TB is a picture of that plated insert Jason put into my tuning slide.

Well, after mourning TM and my hard-earned status as fortissimo user, I'm here.
AND in my mind, you will always be fortissimo, no matter which site you choose to post to. Your experience, amazing guidance and passion for the trumpet is what helps to make any site to which you contribute one of greatness. Great to work with you again, sir!

RE: Trumpets Made ONLY by Their Maker
@ROWUK said in Trumpets Made ONLY by Their Maker:
Even although I own some trumpets that qualify in this thread, I think that the concept is bogus.
Another misconception is the custom horn built for the player... You may get a choice of bell, bore or weight, but what trumpeter really understands how a trumpet works AND how they work? What builder takes the time to really get to know the intimate side of a clients playing.
I have an answer to these questions: Harrelson.
His concepts take personal production to the artist. and any artist that doesn't do this, I guess risks making a bogus purchase.
Harrelson gives you the opportunity to take bogus out of the equation:
Harrelson I agree gives choices of many bell sizes, flairs, and leadpipe configurations. And once again, I agree with the above post, "but what trumpeter really understands [this]." You really don't know what this actually relates to the sound unless you play with these sizes and combine the options. The concept on intimate: Jason is gifted on this concept. Harrelson first sent a representative into my region of the country to display a wide range or horns, including bell sizes, leadpipe configurations, and models. That is how I first discovered a Harrelson. I played all the horns his representative brought to this meeting of professional players. I found the combination that worked for me during that session, and had the ability to try many. I found the combination that outperformed all of the vintage horns I had ever owned, and in my mind, was never so clear with a purchasing decision. AND ONLY after that experience, did Jason schedule an interview with me (which lasted 15 minutes) to be assured that this was, indeed the horn that was going to deliver my long term performance goals for how I intended to use that horn. I know of no other technical master that goes to that length to serve their customer.
So can purchasing a horn from Harrelson wind up as a bogus decision? Yes it can if you chose not to discuss this with the Master. But does Jason do everything possible to give the opportunity to the customer to get the experience right? From my experience in working with horns, he really does.
I have gone to many trumpet hangs to play on the horns I have purchased to make sure I know what I was getting, but Jason is the only horn maker I know that brings a trumpet hang to you, to give the professional the chance to understand his product.

RE: KGU Brass Mod Kits & Boosters
@georgeb said in KGU Brass Mod Kits & Boosters:
If these kits add weight to the horn I'm guessing it darkened the sound considerably, which a lot of jazz players like, and perhaps Bob is one of them.
Added weight may also be good for heavy metal!

Here is yet another band that employed the Tower of Power brass section but combined with a band that has an amazing Hammond B3 solo. The combination is just amazing:

RE: Best Off-brand Trumpets
My Allora pocket trumpet is also amazing for the price. Very esthetic visual appeal and plays very sexy with a Harmon mute.
