Well, if you read this thread, you’ll know who we are. A bunch of prototypical trumpet players who have nothing better to do than argue on line...

Argue? As a trumpet player, I see this more as performing duets.

      So the issue is civility.

...I am criticizing what I see: paler shades of gray. If that is what the community wants, cool for the community. I am trying to get to the meat of the issue here. I do expect more response - especially from those with "more power". Luke warm is NOT an option (neither is war).

I think a pinch of spice applied just in the right places will support perfect civility (formal politeness and courtesy in behavior or speech). Spicing up the conversation, I believe, enhances the understanding. I believe there is currently a good stability in the mental health of this community, that I am hoping we evolve in the direction of context described above by Rowuk.

    • Joey DeFrancesco Forever Remembered ♥

Joey DeFrancesco has left us much too early at age 51. Not only a renowned organist but also a very accomplished trumpet player. More than once I thought I was hearing a recording of Miles only to being floored that it was Joey.

@MasterWannabe said in How to post pictures ???:

I hate to seem like a dunce but I got to go with what I have. In my first post I posted some pictures but for the life of me I can't seem to figure out how I did it. Could somebody please take pity on an old guy and give me directions ?

There are two ways of doing this.

FIRST try going to the tool bar that comes with the site:
      8f054da6-243e-41f0-93fa-9249ae0a8cc9-image.png
The icon circled is the one you want to choose IF THE PICTURE IS STORED IN YOU COMPUTER:
Once you select this icon, you will be given instructions on going the file of the picture you want to post, then when you select you picture in the file, hit the response button in the instruction window.

ANOTHER WAY to do this is to go to your Search Window on your Windows Program that says: Type here to search. Then type in "snipping tool". A tool will automatically appear. Select "New" then outline the picture you want to post. Next, go up to the Edit command (second choice in), select it and choose "copy". Then go to your TB window you are wanting to post in and just hit "paste". It should post fine.

IF you get ERROR messages with either method, I found this neat trick to do:
Open up your Microsoft Word window, paste the picture in that file, down size it then recopy and try it again. Eventually, you will get a size that TB will accept.

      Hope this helps!

      @trumpetb
I see what you are getting at and understand completely. The trouble is that you may use the most expensive recording equipment in the world and still think your sound is crap if, like me, you are your own worse critic.

Not in my case. I finished a set at the Blue Wisp Jazz Club in Cincinnati, and the owner came over to me and said "You sound like Clifford Brown reincarnated". I turned to my band leader, Eddie Brookshire, and asked, "Did you hear the complement the bar owner just gave me?" And he replied, "Yeah, I just heard that he compared you to a dead man"

So much for a complement turned into a slap in the face.

This is almost Zen like. Looking at the finger pointing at the moon instead of looking at the moon, itself.

We seem to spend an awful amount of time talking about how we should talk about things trumpet/musical rather than talking about trumpet/music itself.

Ah, but if you look at that moon with a broader perspective of civil discussion, you see that moon with more clarity.

Returning to the trumpet after a 65 year layoff. Played the trumpet when Ike was in the White House. For me, it's not like riding a bike. After one month I can play a mean Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

After 65 years for me I play Tinkle Tinkle which explains my current relationship with my urologist. Welcome to TB were we say it as it is.

I get Dr. Mark's and Dr. GO's backgrounds confused. Which is which, please.

(Also, if I'm not mistaking, tmd is also a physician, correct?)

I am a physician. Double boarded in internal medicine and pediatrics recently retired from an academic medicine position where I taught all 4 years of classes to medical students, served as a combined medicine-pediatrics residency director and as the founder and director of the adult Cystic Fibrosis program. I additionally taught evidence based medicine statistics and integrated jazz improvisation into the medical school curriculum to improve patient-physician communication. I also had an appointment at the School of Professional Psychology teaching their doctoral students on personality disorders and somatization disorders. I am now in private practice with a family medicine group making the big bucks!

Feedback I have heard is that it holds its own tonally with the favorite second generation, but with a little more security in the slotting - more like a Handcraft. And with superior native intonation to any.

This would suggest it is not like the original Committee. Greasy slotting was the beauty of that horn.

...Doc is a brash kinda guy so I feel this horn suits him...LOL !

In my youth, my mother would always tell me I was full of piss and vinegar, but brash works as well.

The only problem is, I am now an old man with prostate issues for which I am taking apple cider vinegar three times a day to help relieve, so how my ignorance of my past youth, and my mother's predilection, has come back to haunt me at this time.

I was walking out of a nursing home after visiting a patient there, when I heard a discussion between a male resident sitting out on a sidewalk bench, and an obvious lady of ill-repute scantily clothed.

I heard the woman of the street ask the male nursing resident: Sir, would you like super sex?

      The resident's reply was:
      Well, I'll take the soup!

Hello to all, I recently joined this site years after being a frequent reader of TrumpetMaster. I recognize some of the names here and send regards to everyone.

I got a late start on trumpet at 51 years old. I took lessons for years and played for my enjoyment only. A few years ago my playing was interrupted by issues with glaucoma that have since been resolved. Now I’m back to playing and have joined two bands in the New Horizons Music Program offered through some universities in the U.S.

It’s very nice to be playing again and a member of my first bands: concert band and jazz band. I’m learning things not learned unless in a band very fast. Even more, I’m happy to be a part of this forum and I look forward to participating.

Looking forward to coming out to hear you at one of your performances.

FYI, the Eddie Brookshire Big Band celebration of women in jazz is on March 31, starts at 7:30, at the University of Dayton Kennedy Union Boll Theater.

Dr Mark has a doctorate in psychology. He also taught in a university setting, as well as statistics, and then retired as well. He is devoting much of his time now to music, teaching, performing and inventing accessories for the trumpet. He is a very brilliant man, as I have met him personally. He is also very troubled at this time and my heart goes out to him hoping he can find his way back.

I have never played the handcraft, but it is interesting that it has more accurate slotting. I am not sure I would appreciate the handcraft over the later standard Martin due to that feature difference.
