@BigDub Big Brother just making sure you were playing in tune, but also curious what MP you were using.

There were also TV cameras there, but this happens everywhere I go, it seems..
( the tv camera part was true, but the part about it happening everywhere I go, not so much )
We all have big brother following us. Our iPhones/smart phones, don’t you think?

Before TM went down for what appears to be the final time, there was a troll that bragged about being able to circumvent whatever barriers there may have been to prevent him from inflicting himself on the forum. Coincidence? 🤔

I don’t doubt someone could do that. It is frightening what people can do, and what is being done.

There is some confusing and incorrect information about various trumpet brands in this thread. BTW here are some photos on this page of an ascending valve trumpet I finished in my South Salem, NY workshop last week.
      http://www.jaegerbrass.com/jaeger-ascending-c.html

Ivan! OMG it is so good to have you with us! Please make the corrections as you are the ultimate authority (utimate in case you missed the TM spelling). I anxiously await your corrections, Grand Master!
Doesn’t Ivan actually qualify as a maker of trumpets, bearing his name, that is, if you consider "Jaeger" to be the German word for Hunter?

@Niner That looks like a wonderful day, grilling with family.

Just an aside, I recently bought an "Inkbird IBT-4XS" grilling thermometer off of Amazon which has solved any overcook/undercook issues I may have had. Monitors up to 4 meats simultaneously and can link to a smart phone...........I'm not a paid endorser, I just think it was a really cool purchase for someone who likes to grill......✌

Well, I had to use an oven mitt to pick my phone up off the grill and it didn’t work very well after that. So, there’s that.

    • RE: What Does The Tongue Do When The Trumpet Is Played

It’s a funny thing. You don’t have to think to breathe. It just happens automatically. But when you are playing you have to think about how to breathe correctly and in fact when I am playing in front of a crowd I find it’s very helpful to remind myself to breathe, breathe, breathe!
I don’t think about the tongue or what its doing. It just knows what to do.

The brightest I have, and played is the Conn Vocabell as per TobyLou. It is the brightest in my stable with any Lead mpce. I have not tried the Buescher, so I do bow to Trent...

This is my actual horn - still got it. Ozwinds couldn't move it! Museum grade restoration. Magic Horn

Peashooter? Looks like it might be with the tight bends in the tubing and shallow space for the left hand.

    • Set lists

Does your band get a set list? Our community band gets sent a playlist a couple of days ahead of a gig.
Great concept. We have heavy, thick folders with all the music we play, including 4 March Books, scales and warmups, etc. - you get the idea. It's like two New York City phone books. Ok, one.
So the set list is a real great thing. Now I can use a small folder with 14 or 15 songs, all in order. Size of a diner menu. Ready to play. E-Z. P-Z.
      Perfect.
Except, impulsively, our director almost every gig, guaranteed, will pull another song out of thin air, and whisper to us, "let’s do National Emblem" or some other random song.
So much for the convenience of a small folder. We have to lug the fat folder. To be prepared for the slim chance. Of one change.
I need to see about talking some sense into somebody. Right? I could go for having maybe 3 or four alternate songs stuck in there just in case the mood strikes. Still a thin folder, still workable.

      Hi BigDub,
You stated that, "You don’t have to think to breathe. It just happens automatically."
There's nothing natural about the proper breathing needed to play the trumpet.
Look at all the info that's out there addressing just that topic. For example Circle of Breath.
As for the tongue, it's just one way of monitoring tension and force.
When I said you don’t have to think to breathe, I meant in your normal daily activities. It is an unconscious activity. Not, however, while playing trumpet. Yes. I knew that.

How about, “for sale by owner”, or “Hand crafted sandwich”?
Except for the Brooklyn bridge, most things are sold by the owner......
and what else are you going to use to make a sandwich, a fork, or a spatula?

On this Chinese clone exactly as on the original Schilke P5-4, the water key is fitted upside down. And I understood why: when you quickly remove the slide you avoid hitting the edge of the bell.

All the drummers I know wouldn't have any use for sheet music anyway. Why? None of them can read it. Of course the drummers I've used had another problem. They couldn't keep time. Seriously. After the last one, we just gave up having a drummer. Life is so much better. Same story with guitar players.

This drummer is super. He stays on tempo, very skilled at all the components. He is also a member of the Philadelphia Eagles Drum Line. As a NY Giant fan, I do not hold that against him and I am his biggest fan.....in spite of his misguided allegiances! 😁

I was born a little too early to be a Mets fan. There were no Mets, Mariners, Orioles, at least by that name in Baltimore, Angels, Astros, Brewers, Rockies, Expos, Toronto Blue Jays, Nationals , Twins, or Marlins when I was born, either.
I think the Phillies were the Blue Jays very, very early on, by the way. I have visited the Baseball hall of fame at least three times, and I try to read everything in front of me!

    • RE: First Valve Slide and more

For what it’s worth, when I first got my Getzen Eterna, which was my first real pro trumpet, I tended to be flat on the F for some reason. It did seem to resolve itself the more warmed up I got. I think I had developed some habits out of necessity on my Bach TR300.

I would also venture a guess that he doesn't empty the 2nd valve when he plays. 99.9% don't. I mention that since the grey was only there.

What do you mean by "empty"?
Remove the bottom cap and drain it?
I usually remove all my bottom valve caps and shake the water off. My Getzen seems to accumulate a lot of moisture/condensation.

Gad! What's the reason some contemporary (especially internet) lecturers can't take pauses for things to sink in, to emphasize major ideas, etc. but just blast through the material without pause?

There is a key for that....it looks like: =
