Why not another thread about bigger horns ?

Not sure it's the good place for this thread? Anyway let's go:
I know a lot of people on this board also play alto/tenor horn, euphonium, and so on...
So do I (Yamaha alto): -
When I bought my Olds Studio trombone, I had expected there to be some form of counterweight, like a weighted tuning slide brace. No such luck. The tuning slide appears to have been replaced, so maybe the original had this feature. I found an Ambassador counterweight, which I installed, and it does an adequate job.

I spend most of my time playing french horn. Or as we like to call it, horn. Does that qualify as a bigger horn?
As for why there isn't another thread, possibly because players of other horns don't spend all their time talking about it online?

Hello,
my low horns:
1- a Jupiter Bb valve tenor trombone, played with a Bach 22C mouthpiece:
2- a Dimavery F alto valve trombone played with a Schilke 40B mouthpiece:
and both:
Two cheap horns that play well enough for an occasional doubler like me.
-
This is what I play in my small jazz group. Every time I bring it out, people come up and ask what it is. No one has ever guessed right.
-
Reminds me of my Blessing marching trombone, just a little bit bigger!
-
@Richard-III Is that a king 1122 marching french horn? I played on a conn 134e during marching season when not on cornet. I always had trouble with the lyre holder's placement, do you have that problem?

Well, you named the horn. Yes it is. I never marched with it so have never tried it with a lyre. In my day, back in the early 70's, our mellophones were two valve things in G. If I remember correctly. And we had everything memorized. Drum and Bugle Corps. The corps, now defunct was the Knight Raiders.

You missed the valve-rotor days. Some day imma buy me a v-r mello, just because. Most fun horn to play, ever.

@Richard-III From what remember, I think my set screw on the lyre holder itself was the problem, we also had our music memorized so we didn't use lyres. Because of the placement of the holder on the leadpipe, combining that jutting out and a knurled screw further jutting out equaled havoc to my palm. I would love to get a kanstul g bugle or maybe a DEG, I was just born too late to play on them. I did play when the Conn 134e was new though, in 1991 they replaced the older circular marching french horns in my high school, I remember that new case smell.

Anybody can recommend the most expensive trumpet in the world? I researched some blogs and found only this review https://webproductradar.com/most-expensive-trumpet-in-the-world

Welcome Eric. Maybe try another thread, LOL?Presently own a Yamaha valve bone that I got mainly because of chop problem on trumpet.
Got hooked by Raul de SouzaPlayed slide trombone in a North Texas Lab Band. Horn borrowed from Music Department, name unknown.
Played French Horn in the service for two years, as well as Tokyo youth Philharmonic, etc. Own a Hans Hoyer.
Problem on left hand now because of strokes. Actually my brass instrument of choice.
Biggest influence, Herman BaumanPlayed Alto Horn in a German city band. Markneunkirchen (East Germany at the time) made horn but I don't remember maker.

No discussion about bigger horns would be complete without this:
or this:

I’ve had to get proficient enough to play test what I work on - my best (outside the trumpet/cornet/flugel family, of course!) is French horn, worst is trombone. I can’t buzz loose enough for bass bone or tuba at all! Trombones are fairly simple creatures and can be diagnosed without a play test, but if I need one I hand it to my boss since he is a trombonist. He can also handle a bit of tuba, but if it’s a higher end tuba I have friends I can call. Here’s the latest to leave my bench - a Conn bass trumpet. I’ve had 7 or 8 bass trumpets cross my bench in the last two years, and they’re harder for me to play than euph. They’re much harder to center for me!

@ericmonroes The most expensive? Probably Monette, as a brand; unless you get into completely custom-built, totally from-scratch one-off things made by elves in the Black Forest. (Or extremely rare antiques owned by super-famous players.)
-
I don't play anything shown so far in this thread, but it is sure interesting to look at the instruments and read about them.
I tried trombone for awhile in my teens, but using the larger mp affected my trumpet embouchure so I sold the trombone. -

Checked out this site. I do no agree. Monette and Harrelson trumpets can be several times more expensive. My Harrelson SWE Summit, brushed silver with 14K gold tuning slides now starts around $14,000 but I have seen it on sale for $12,800.

I just got a Blessing marching baritone. Much less expensive than the flugabone because it doesn't say flugeabone. Same configuration. Nice sound that can be baritone like or trombone like. Sort of like a flugelhorn with more smoke and depth.
And one of the reasons there isn't more interest in this thread is that most people aren't interested in things other than trumpets on these sites.
