Greetings from Florida's Jazz Scene

Re: [Hello! Welcome to TB](who are you?)
Hello I'm just making my introduction here. I hope to become a trusted source for jazz trumpet models. My name is Jamie Gatchell and I own Jamie's Trumpet Gallery, a jazz trumpet pro shop in Melbourne, FL.
Yep, just pro-level trumpets, flugels and trumpet/flugel hybrids for jazz. Because that is what I really love.Stocking the high-end new horns from around the world is expensive and super risky, but it's what I want to wake up to every morning. No student models here. If I wouldn't play it personally, I certainly don't want to surround myself with it in my gallery. I am hoping to keep this shop afloat and I think I can. Time will tell, of course, but I'm planning to enjoy the journey.
It occurred to me a few weeks ago that I also might be the first woman to open her own jazz trumpet shop...if not, I'm certainly among a pretty small group. It is possible that I interacted with some of you in person at ITG in San Antonio. If so, hello again! I hope you'll take a moment to check out my website and, if you live in Florida or are planning to pass through, please come and visit my trumpet paradise!
Cheers!
Jamie GatchellPS - some new perks on offer are 1) financing--woohoo! and 2) very soon I will launch a Fed-Ex try-before-you buy option

@georgeb Thank you George. Good to meet you.

@jamiejazz
Welcome to TrumpetBoards.Com.
I have visited Jamie’s Trumpet Gallery in person, and I even think I posted about it. It hosts Super high end / high quality horns, many of which are not available elsewhere without long custom waits, that are immediately available here. Talk about instant gratification! Jamie also is an accomplished professional jazz trumpet player and vocalist. If you haven’t checked out her website, do so. Look under “gallery” to see her available horns.
In addition to the amazing trumpet collection, as an added bonus, the gallery is associated with Atlantic Music Center in Melbourne Florida, which hosts the largest collection of pianos that I have ever seen. -
Does this mean I can finally get a Pan American?
-
@ssmith1226 Thanks Steve!
-
@kehaulani No PanAm, sorry. It looks like you already play a pretty nice array of horns. The only Conn I have at the moment is an 8B Artist.
-
It was a joke.
-
I like the fact that you specialize in "jazz" horns, although you and I know that definition can be a bit fuzzy at times!
I'm curious if you've got some SEO work being done. That would increase your customer base substantially.
-
@administrator Indeed, “jazz” resides ultimately in the player and his/her identity more than in the horn itself. You definitely have that right. But there are certainly trumpet and flugelhorn models that fit those sound and performance identities more than others. Those are the models I try to represent. The niche of boutique jazz models also excuses me from having to carry horns in every key and piccolo trumpets, etc., and it keeps me at a distance from our local band and student model retailers, all of whom I respect very much. I try not to deliberately step on toes!
As for SEO, well I’m working on it. I don’t have the magic insight for it yet, but I keep trying new ideas.
Cheers!

That's good. Your site looks good. Normally, I would not suggest somebody have white text on a black background but in your case, it fits. Jazz is often something performed in a "dark and smoky" place so it gives a nice atmosphere.
-
When I finally get around to ACTUALLY playing again I'll pay your shop a visit. I'm in South America right now and all flights go through Florida so it's actually a pretty easy destination to get to.
-
Question: does this sound like a standard Cornet? To me, it looks more like it plays and sounds like a flugelhorn.
-
Jamie, most of the brands on your site...I never heard of!
-
@dr-go Really?? Monette, Taylor, Schagerl, Inderbinden? First time I saw Da Carbo and Inderbinden was 2012 . She even has a Harrellson Summit -pretty sure you’ve heard of that!
-
@administrator Sweet! I'd love to meet you.
-
@dr-go Hi. Well good! The reason is that these are horns made by small companies that have really carved a niche for themselves in the industry. I wanted to get all the hard-to-find instruments that I love most together in one space.
Cheers!
Jamie -
@administrator Good question. And it probably has different answers depending on the player. Personally, I don't think it feels like a flugelhorn, especially because I have a Monette flugelhorn in the gallery to try next to it. To me it really is its own sweet cornet world.
There are a number of recordings made on the Monette Cornette by Ron Miles, who recently passed away. At least some of those, if not all, can be found on Spotify. There is an album called "Rainbow Sign" that has tracks to give you an idea.

JamieRead the list of horns in my signature. I was attempting to provide a little humor. Actually I have played all the horns on your list but my preference shows. Adam's does make good horns and with a great sound but I do an issue with the resistance I get from them and that's after I tried correcting for gap issues with various mouthpieces.

No, not really. See comment below. Some times my attempt of humor can be as dry as gin.
