Senior political appointees serve at the pleasure of the president. This includes cabinet secretaries, assistant secretaries, etc. Career civil servants do not.

And elected officials cannot be fired by the President. So if the VP does something to totally violate the President's intent, the President cannot remove his VP.

Doesn't Fauci "serve at the pleasure of the President"?

No, he does what is right...

What's that supposed to mean? Do you mean that he can't be fired by the President?

So Kahaulani, I believed I answered the second part of your question to ROWUK regarding who and who not a President can fire (I said a President not The President as that commentary is based on Political Science, not Politics).

For the first question: What's that suppose to mean by "No, he does what is right... I believe I may share with ROWUK that Dr. Fauci, a scientist, is guided by the science, not politics [i.e. trying to make a decision in saving the economy for political gain over diminishing loss of life for optimal medical outcomes]. As it is the science behind Fauci's course of decision making that impacts on health. If the decision is made based on politics then the opposite may be the fate for We the People.

So before I am challenged on this as being a political comment... I am only stating current fact that the science has been ignored, the the US is now at 5 million infected. So our governments, State or Federal, has been ineffectual in the United States of America to protect We the People.

So how does all this impact on "Playing risks in Covid-time"? Whether the trumpet does or does not significantly produce infectious particulates, I doubt this will impact significantly on spreading Covid over the higher risk of an audience that dances on large dance floors to musicians that may be social distancing, or with the patrons that sit at the bar shoulder and shoulder to drink or eat, obviously without the ability to wear a face mask, whether they believe in doing so or not. No politics here, just human behavior. Right?

And for the musicians' sake, rubbing elbows with audience members, even though you may have taken all precautions on stage, then puts you at greater risk off-stage. Point is that, even though you may take precautions on stage, as soon as you socialise with others at the venue, all bets are off.

                  Sadly, this is so true.

Sadly, live music in my area is still on hold. The last gig I still had scheduled for 2020 just got postponed, to be rescheduled for next year. NAMM 2021 has been cancelled, though some of the workshops will still happen online. Hopefully once live events are safe again audience will still be ready to come to them! I fear that one of my regular gigs may go away for good - a local Senior Center with a large dance hall that had all ages ballroom dancing, which is pretty popular here. One of the regular dancers died of COVID-19 shortly after the last dance I played there. Hopefully there will be a vaccine, and people will actually get it when it’s available! It really makes me angry how many people without any scientific knowledge or training are deciding that they know better. I wear a mask for others, because I touch gross things on a daily basis. I practice good hygiene for me, because I don’t want to get sick with the regular flu, let alone this! I also practice good hygiene for my husband, who is immune compromised.

                    Daily players: Adams A1, A4LT, F2 flugel , CN1 cornet.

Wow. Things are beginning to open up for me. In just a week time I have 12 performances booked going into this year. Hope they keep coming in fast and numerous. Hopefully others here are finding the world to music is slowly opening up!

                          Glad for you, Doc.

I sure do miss playing for a live audience. By June everyone in Nova Scotia should be vaccinated so I'm hoping our various summer concerts will get to happen.

I played in church last Sunday (socially distanced quintet), and my wife and I just got our 2nd Covid shots this morning. Already scheduled to play in a brass choir on Easter and have a probable July 4th gig in the works. Playing opportunities seem to be picking up a bit, and my worries about catching or spreading it are fading fast.

Well, looks like I will be solo trumpet this Easter - cant rehearse - other 3 in the quartet were all in the church the day 30% of attendees got the bug.

People need to wear masks - all the time. But no, they all take them off to sing - including the choir standing in the balcony singing out over everyone.

But then the same people who cant answer their phone without taking off their mask for some inexplicable reason, are scared of a trumpet. If a trumpet needed a mask, it wouldn't need a spit key.

From the orifice at the base of the mouthpiece cup to just the valves, the expansion is nearly 1500%. PV=nRT. Expansion slows and cools. This is how you make a simple sample dryer for analytical systems where timing is not an issue.

So long as that choir is singing right over the top of me, 6" not 6' away, with no masks, I'm not seeing any point in masking my bell.

(Of course, a couple more Sundays and there may be no congregation left)
