From a layman's perspective, does not electronic communication rely on electric pulses perfectly following their paths with the precise voltage and duration? And considering the physical size of the hardware, is it possible that electronic pulses can, due to extreme miniaturization, sometimes follow a path not intended by its designers, creating unexpected errors which can be difficult to trace or replicate, yet nevertheless cause a program to function abnormally?

RE: Bots are getting scary
@jolter How encouraging. People's reputations, health, and lives are at the mercy of junk programming. So how can this problem be overcome? Can it be overcome, or will it be a cyber-endemic disease?

@barliman2001 Well, this video posted 12 years ago, so we can incorporate more recent events to bring ourselves up to date. It's still informative, and the sense of humor is a nice touch.

RE: Trumpet slide grease
@henrylr I understand that you're going to sell this trumpet and want to know if what you have on hand will suffice, as opposed to having to buy an additional product. Considering the condition of the horn, wouldn't it be best to sell it with the proper lubricants? Never mind that the new owner may decide to clean it out and redo all the lubricants, and never mind that buying the right slide grease will diminish your return on the price by about ten dollars; it's just good practice to sell any merchandise without undisclosed issues or cutting corners. Besides, you'll have the slide grease to use on other instruments.

RE: Trumpet slide grease
Why not use regular slide grease designed for tuning and valve slides? It's affordable and appropriate. Check with Dillon Music https://www.dillonmusic.com/ , for example. Sure, you can use trombone slide grease, petroleum jelly, wheel bearing grease, lanolin, lard... whatever, but using the best product designed for its specific use will provide the best results, and without negative effects.

RE: What are you listening to?
I like Robert Palmer's album Ridin' High. Here's the playlist; it transitions from tune to tune: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1jK8eG2_jXP0uFbJ7_3D2bjECVZ43hYe

Does the moon really rise? I've never used that phrase.
Not only does it rise and set, it also waxes and wanes.

RE: Mouthpiece issue
I always find it odd and annoying when a new member posts a question (in this case, two), gets good responses, and then........... nothing! No acknowledgement, no more posts.......... nothing!

RE: Carol Brass Sticky Valves
@orly61 As for the vibration, many decades ago my new Elkhart Bach Model 37 had a buzz that turned out to be incomplete solder on one of the first valve tubes. While it was being repaired under warranty, I had the opportunity to use my band director's King Silversonic. There was no comparison between the two; I was glad to get my Bach back. That trumpet is one of the few horns I would like to still have. Anyway, the vibration in your Carol Brass trumpet could be something that is not possible to see, and needs inspection by someone qualified and experienced.

@administrator If you can't find/create another situation within the industry, what other strengths do you have that you can turn into a career change? Determination can sustain you in taking a new direction. Remember that it's common these days to explore different careers before finding a good fit.

RE: Carol Brass Sticky Valves
Close tolerances can take a bit of break-in time. It took a month and a half of going through the routine of wiping the friction residue off and re-lubricating the valves and valve casings once or twice a day whenever they started to stick on my Yamaha YFH-731 flugelhorn before they suddenly went from sluggish to perfect.
