RE: Question
@administrator I think everyone that wanted TrumpetMaster ended up here, whether through discovery or invitation, and from my perspective, TrumpetBoards is a good evolution. I wouldn't go to the trouble and expense of resurrecting TM. Whatever happens to it could end up like website versions of Olds and Conn. TB is a streamlined, user-friendly niche website/community with quality members.

RE: What are you listening to?
@discount-bassy "Two wrongs don't make a right...three do." And I thought that three lefts make a right!

RE: Bots are getting scary
@ssmith1226 Thanks. AI appears to be capable of imitating some humans, such as those who speak with authority, whether they have knowledge or not, and with equal facility spew gibberish.

RE: Bots are getting scary
What happens when you ask https://chat.openai.com/chat to create something, like, say, an original joke, for instance? I tried to access the website myself, but I keep getting an "Access denied" error message.

RE: Bugler's Holiday from 1995
Hearing Bugler's Holiday brings back memories every time I hear it. It's been 57 years since two good friends of mine and I played it at band contest in high school.

RE: A little humour
@ssmith1226 To answer the question... two large Tupperware containers, as you can see in the background.

RE: Bots are getting scary
Are we at the point at which we have conversations with programs designed to replicate the presence of humans? How profoundly does the development of this technology affect the nature of communication? Are there aspects of this path that will reveal a less than desirable journey and or destination? Will asking programs such as http://chat.openai.com/ these questions reveal reliable answers? Who's running the show, anyway? And what are their intentions? Bots are getting scary, indeed.

"… is that it speaks with unquestioning confidence, even when it’s wrong." I think it's safe to say we all know people like this, too. Perhaps there should be an additional category called ALOI (Artificial Lack Of Intelligence).

RE: The difference in timbre caused by using additional valves
I hear timbre and intonation changes with different valve combinations, but the timbre changes aren't enough to sound like a different horn. I just write the phenomenon off to "nature of the beast".

RE: Howdy! I'm new to the forum.
@discount-bassy Welcome to TrumpetBoards! You'll find learning to play the trumpet to be a challenging, rewarding, and sometimes exasperating journey. Please feel free to ask any questions or add comments as you like. You will find many helpful members here.

@ssmith1226 This brings tears of joy to my eyes every time I hear it.

RE: Any recent experience on resuming playing after CAGS?
@tjcombo I wish you a speedy and complete recovery. Pay attention to your body and what it tells you. I think you have enough experience in life to combine enthusiasm and wisdom.

RE: How to Use Breath Support to Fatten Your Sound and Fix Intonation
@ssmith1226 "Without exception, my current colleagues of my age range, who are comeback players had a similar experience of lack of exposure to these concepts in their earlier phase of playing."
I'll add my exception to GeorgeB's. Every year on day one of junior high school/7-9th grade band, the director explained the concept/practice of filling the lungs from the bottom and using abdominal pressure to expel air along with practicing proper posture. He said this habit would provide adequate healthy oxygen to the body, regardless of one's activity or rest. In high school/grades 10-12, when the director heard a weak sound, he reminded the player to practice breath support. My trumpet teacher also mentioned breath support and posture as fundamental to proper playing.

RE: Lip Buzzing-Bad
@barliman2001 What's the harm in continuing a discussion in which there is no apparent hostility? Nuanced viewpoints as expressed in this thread provide additional ways of understanding the concepts we examine in our conversation. Besides, repetition is no obstacle to learning.
Imagine hearing a tune, any tune, played by any number of musicians and saying: "All right, I've heard it enough times; I don't need to hear it again." Shouldn't we have the option of hearing the tune repeated, whether by the same or by additional musicians? And have you not, upon hearing this tune again, sometimes discovered something that you had not previously noticed? Can this not be applied to the subject at hand?
