@ssmith1226 If you swing a tune, it's jazz. Example:

    • RE: New to this board

Welcome to TrumpetBoards. You apparently have been on a challenging journey. Hopefully we will be able to help you along the way. While a few self-taught trumpet players, such as Uan Rasey, have succeeded tremendously, most self-taught trumpet players develop habits that must be unlearned and relearned properly in order for them to advance without undue difficulty. Feel free to ask any questions you might have.

    • RE: Help me identify this Trumpet: Ciicel Consul

@leonardo-santos Do you have access to a competent brass repair/reconditioning shop? The valves look like they will need proper replating, along with perhaps honing the bores, followed by lapping the newly plated valves for smooth operation.

      Welcome to TrumpetBoards!

Although I'm not familiar with this design/manufacturer, it appears to be thoughtfully designed, and the quality of construction appears to be first-rate. How does it play?

Don't be concerned about your English; it's just fine.

    • RE: Customized Olds Recording Model

It looks like a solution to a problem that needed to be addressed by the techniques and skills of the player, not by adding a questionable, possibly detrimental, and undoubtedly expensive appendage to a trumpet that plays superbly without such modification.

Someone went to no small expense for this one. Here's the eBay listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/404376116253?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11021.m43.l1120&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=453f16d23d91450da2244f62c1e2cf80&bu=42999274517&ut=RU&exe=0&ext=0&osub=-1~1&crd=20230712043335&segname=11021

@bobmiller1969 Interesting designs. Your approach to creating these mutes is admirable. Please let us know when your videos become available. BTW - what material(s) do you use to make them? Bamboo?

    • RE: Happy 4th of July 2.0

      Nothing special trumpetwise here, either.

Most memorable Independence Day: My wife and I were driving back from some really nice fireworks when we got rearended by some drunk who fled the scene and totalled his borrowed Ford Expedition shortly thereafter. My wife sustained neck injuries which I suppose could have been worse had it not been for the headrest.

Damage to our car came to within about $2 of it being totalled, but a great repair shop restored the damage perfectly. Unfortunately, that car got totalled at a later date in a trumpet-related incident, a story for another time.

We were subpoenaed to appear at the miscreant's trial as witnesses for the prosecution. Not surprisingly, he did not show up, as he had fled back to Mexico, presumably to take advantage of the availability of tequila there and likely harm more people in the process.

    • RE: How to "Clock" your mouthpiece

I would think that a lack of concentricity/alignment would be the cause of this phenomenon. I recall occasionally seeing mouthpieces that had a very slight ridge in the throat area where it appeared that the cup and the backbore were not in perfect alignment. One could speculate that this occurs more often in mass produced mouthpieces than in custom/limited production ones. In any event, clocking a mouthpiece can help to discover if such a flaw exists in any given mouthpiece.
