    • RE: Who made this trumpet

      Without a manufacturer stamp/engraving, the origin of this trumpet is near impossible to determine. There are clues, however.

      Why would a company not identify itself in some way on its product? Barring prototype status, the likely answer is that they don't want to be associated with the product.

      Some of the details, or lack thereof, reveal a simplicity in their use, such as basic water keys and a lack of a third slide stop, in addition to the lack of engraving on the bell, which tend to indicate a TSO (Trumpet Shaped Object), typical of build-to-a-price instruments made in China. That this trumpet is in a rudimentary budget case is another clue.

      It's interesting that the previous owner used it throughout college. Does it function as it should? In what condition are the valves? How does it play?

    • RE: Al Cass Magic?

      They were made by a man who dedicated his life to all things trumpet and had the ability to refine what aspects of the trumpet he could, resulting in remarkable achievements. I believe that incorporating a considerable amount of weight at the rim may have had an acoustic effect similar to, but perhaps more pronounced than Olds and Bach Megatone, and perhaps Conn, to a lesser degree, which have the weight concentrated at the rear body of the mouthpiece. Try this https://alcassmouthpieces.com/ and this https://trumpetboards.com/topic/358/al-cass-mouthpieces for more info.

    • RE: Future survival of this forum

      TrumpetBoards offers comprehensive, perhaps even exhaustive, access to all things trumpet-related and beyond. It is easy to use. We have members who are capable of answering any questions asked, and we are welcoming to all who participate. We address subjects beyond trumpets for those who acknowledge that the trumpet, however large or small a part of one's life, is still a part that is not exclusive of other aspects.

      For those who prefer Trumpet Herald, perhaps bringing the same subject up on each forum and comparing the responses might be interesting. I don't understand why there is so little participation here, and yet there is that reality.

      @ssmith1226 The close-ups of his face show how little needs to change in order access all registers. Also, I could have posted this in https://trumpetboards.com/topic/1427/transcribe-this-one?_=1699386841517 .

      @damon-mcqueary I don't know about the "5" prefix, but there's this:

      @grune I see you've been busy! Thank you for your efforts.

      According to https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096639/fullcredits , the trumpet solo was played by Malcolm McNab.

    • RE: Mute Clarification?

      My interpretation would be an actual derby/bowler instead of a derby mute; it seems to suit the piece reasonably well. It's stiff enough and round enough to suit its purpose as a mute.

      ... and part of AI is the totality of science fiction, including scenarios in which the robots take over... and not in a benevolent way. Will some systems focus on good, while others demand evil? Will there be bot wars? Stay tuned; the future is coming.

      @l-a-horn said in Fun hooter for "those" gigs...:

      You can't use it in an orchestra, wind band or big band because you're not correctly playing it. The drunken vulture means that it should be played while toasted. It'll sound remarkable! 🍻

      One can only imagine the remarks!
