Hi TBers,
...But as I get older and my teeth have shifted together a bit,..
Nah, It's not age but chattering the teeth from living through all those cold Cincinnati Winters!
@walter-sk Have you contacted Jason Harrelson? He is easy to contact and even if you did not buy the horn from him directly, he can help you assess the situation.
@furcifer interesting as I still play my Getzen with their 3C cup. I did perform a cup safari with my Kanstul and finally settled on The Flip Oakes 3C cup. It has amazing depth that really allows you to play with the air you put into the horn leading to a spectrum of textures. Unfortunately the Flip Oakes has the Bach backbore so this does not fit into my Getzen. So, I am still playing on the Getzen 3C for that horn.
I paint you humble. Well played BidDub, Well played!

Me. too. I favor my older horns above the newer ones. I especially love the 1942 Buescher and the 1952 Selmer Paris.
And then again, there is nothing better than an older horn player... but on this account, I am biased!

Ok, had a longish - four and a half hours - Big Band rehearsal (www.bbmf.de) yesterday evening. Had the Recording with me for the first time.
...A horn that can sing almost like a flugel, whisper, and strip paint at the slightest provocation in that direction. Just what I wanted... only one horn has ever done that to me, and that was another Balanced model - a 1950s Courtois.
I have that experience with my Harrelson Summit. It has a large bell so when playing with on open embouchure, a rich flugel like sound is generated. But add a focused blow directed right down into the throat it not only peals paint, but then reseals it into the next room!

What an experience! A horn that can sing almost like a flugel....
I once was challenged by a piano player to sound more like a flugelhorn as I only had my trumpet with me at that time, my Olds Recording. I said, no problem listen, then relaxed my lower embouchure and got a nice flugelhorn sound. After he exclaimed with approval of how well that sounded. I then challenged him to make his piano sound like a Hammond B3!

FINALLY... after more or less seven years of searching, I found one. A 1954 Olds Recording, in superb state; Votruba of Vienna, being rotary specialists, did not even know the collectability of this horn and let it go for a mere 800 Euros... with 99% original lacquer, no red rot, clean, nicely popping valves... a large bore with a rose brass bell... it went onto their website on a Friday afternoon, and I cut short a holiday in Italy to be in their shop on Saturday morning... happy!

yes, will post pics!
Hmmm, I don't see it listed on your procurement list! Congratulations! I love both of mine, and LA and a Fullerton model and no difference in playability between these two vintages.

@dr-go You're confusing The Scream, by Munch, with The Bark, which is what a Spaniel might do when it wants to munch.
But you gotta admit, analyzing these 2 perspectives of this painting is a Ruff comparison.

(Edit) - just noticed the painting of the rabbit. Are there echoes of Munch's The Scream?
Ahh. The Munch's The Scream is actually a Dog: Spaniel

Which goes against what the research in the UK shows. Brass and woodwind emit fewer than speaking does.
This is my understanding in reading the science as well.

Because of the smaller Wick ID I'm having a little trouble getting clean notes down there. But I have some exercises that should fix that in time.
Perhaps just relaxing the embouchure will achieve this .
