Love Retro mod horns. Comfort is my biggest motivation. If it makes it easier to play I am all for it.
Although I now only play modern horns, have in the past modified several horns. Did not hurt resale price at all.
Owners horn can do whatever they want with it.

@Dale-Proctor My guess is that it's an early Elkhart mouthpiece, which is identical to the preceding Mt. Vernon version. I wonder why it was so noticeably changed after that.

Thanks for your concern. It sits on a shelf in the spare bedroom, and I’m not overly concerned about any health hazards or deterioration of the bugle itself. It’s probably 80 years old and still looks fine, I don’t handle it, and it will probably still be on the shelf for my daughter to dispose of when I’m gone… 🙂

Still playing the Mercedes, and tired of the awkward 3rd slide ring assembly. I took the horn to Southeastern Musical Services and asked them to replace it with a fixed ring I had bought on eBay. About a week later I picked it up - old adjustable ring assembly removed, new ring soldered on, slide polished and relacquered, all for $50.

I commend you all for going out and participating in these events. Wether a paid gig or community participation. As long as you enjoyed the experience is all that matters in the end. I've been so busy with work I've put any playing aside. I'm saddened to my core for that and I am proactively looking to change that this year. Hope you all had a great Christmas.

Yeah, Miatas are a lot of fun, but very tiny!

Yes, in city traffic I feel like a roach who’s about to be stepped on…lol. I ride motorcycles, and it takes the same mindset to drive one of these. Here’s the view from my window at a stop light.

Yes, I play Curry 3-size mouthpieces on my trumpets and cornets almost exclusively. 3B, 3C, and 3M on trumpet & 3C and 3BBC on cornet.

@Bb-Brass Arnold & Sons are also good clones of good Bach pieces... and they ave the additional advantage that they are readily available in Europe (whereas Blessings aren't).

Seems like you did it all, kehaulani. That's a lot of great memories.
I can't play as well anymore either, but I have great memories of all the gigs I enjoyed with my 5 piece band during the 50's/60's.

Thanks for that reply Dale, the horns clearly share similar braces, good to know.

@georgeb With breaks, of course. Austrian weddings involve many speeches all over the day, and lots of pranks. In total, there's perhaps twelve ours playing time in 28 hours of attendance.

Congrats! I know how good that feels because I recently did the same thing but in the opposite direction. I had an 1880's Courtois F trumpet mouthpiece but no trumpet.. but then a Courtois valved F trumpet from 1870 showed up on eBay and I now have the two together. This particular trumpet really needs the old mouthpiece, it can't be played in tune with a modern mouthpiece.

Yeah, seems the jazz players today play very angry. I don't know, but the thing I liked about players like Bobby Hackett, when he played a ballad like Stardust, he improvised but he was still with the melody and you always knew the song he was playing.

It is the C8 with the Z51 Performance package which is top of the line! To be expected from an Engineer employed as a consultant for Wright Patterson Airforce Base.
