Keep it simple - no profanity, no name calling, nothing unrelated to trumpets/cornets/flugelhorns/etc. and musical topics in general. That gives topics a pretty wide latitude without excessive rules. Be civil to your fellow members if there’s a disagreement on some point, and keep things PG in case younger people are looking in.
Anyone here into photographing railroad subjects? Years ago, I was interested in both photography and trains, and took a lot of photos of them, mostly with an old Miranda 35mm camera. I still like photography, but I don’t chase trains any more...lol
Anyway, to get things started, I’ll post a few of the ones I’ve taken for any who are interested. Feel free to post any you have taken, but please don’t post generic pics found on the net.

The problem I had with progressive lenses was there is only a small sweet spot for things at arm’s length, and I had to look straight ahead through them to focus correctly. Three irritating features became quickly evident... No in-focus peripheral vision. No following the music on the pages with my eyes - I had to turn my head as I played. The trumpet or cornet bell was partially in my line of sight.
I had people suggest bifocals, but the single vision glasses work great and the conductor is just slightly out of focus, which doesn’t matter since I just watch him out of the corner of my eye while playing.
My wife and I went to see an outdoor performance of a big band I had been a member of in years past. The band leader saw me in the audience, and after a few more charts, he told the crowd I was there and had me stand up. After some applause, he said to come on up and play a song with them. More applause, so I couldn’t refuse. I went up on stage, a friend handed me his trumpet, and on an unfamiliar trumpet and mouthpiece, with no warm up, we kicked off String of Pearls the fastest I’d ever tried to play it. Of course, I ended up with the solo, and I luckily made it through pretty well, even at breakneck speed. More applause, and I returned to my seat…lol
I ran across this old picture from the 1980s of a German band I played in from time to time. We were playing for members of the Von Braun rocket team, their families, and friends at a picnic on top of a mountain in Huntsville, Alabama. I still have the flugelhorn, an Olds L-12, and the suspenders...lol

My junior high band director told me I’d never be any good as a trumpet player, and after fighting the instrument for about 58 years, I’m beginning to think he was right…
I recently bought an extremely rare cornet mouthpiece on eBay. I’ve been looking for an original, marked mouthpiece for my circa 1870 Henry Lehnert SARV Bb cornet for many years, and this one popped up on eBay about a week ago. I clicked the buy it now button, and it came in the mail today.
It’s in very good condition to be so old, and the shank, which is smaller than modern cornet shanks, fits my cornet perfectly. I was very surprised at how well it played. It’s nice to reunite orphaned vintage pieces to their parent instruments. Now, if I only had an original Lehnert case...lol

About a week before Christmas one year, I got a frantic phone call from a large church in town to see if I could take a trumpet player’s spot in a big Christmas show (with 100 member choir and a full orchestra) that had just completed its 3rd performance out of six. The person on 2nd trumpet had become miffed about something and walked out, the next performance was in a couple hours, and it was slated to be recorded for TV.
I said yes, showed up and sight read the performance pretty well, because the music wasn’t as difficult as I had feared. I was hired for the rest of the performances and received the full stipend. I assume the awol trumpet player received nothing.
I’m a moderator on another site (nothing to do with trumpets) and we generally let silliness go, but name-calling and vulgar posts are deleted. Very much of that from the same person results in permanent removal. Same goes for people who want to do nothing but argue and are childish and arrogant.
I became involved in one of the recent disagreements here and was berated repeatedly even after trying to keep the discussion friendly. People who know it all and have a chip on their shoulder can be hard to deal with. Hey, I know that I don’t know it all, but I know what I know...
Poor old Bob Pixley. Reaching for those grapes that were too high. I notice a “Banned banner” next to someone’s name now, though, and Bob’s not coming back either.
