RE: 1953 Conn 80A Cornet

Appears to be a transitional model with the mixed brass and silver/nickel slides! Nice cornet!
I wished I liked playing it. I mean it plays like its supposed to but its almost a trumpet. And I am selling it for exactly what I paid for it + $$ I put in to fix it up. Probably You can find one cheaper. Who knows.
I would give it to some kid in a minute but the stupid valve design would be a problem for a kid. It was an ignorant design by Conn. They did a lot of innovation but you would have thought they would move on after 30 or forty years of this design.

1953 Conn 80A Cornet
Great mechanical condition. Fair cosmetically. No real dents.

RE: Favorite Cornet
Well, I did it. Conn 1947 36A. It might be to "trumpety" for me but my understanding is that Conn managed to make it sound a bit more mellow than the King Master. Can't wait to get it.

RE: Exercises for super fast tonguing
Well George, I am 73..not far behind you. I truly want to get as good as possible. And you can work on it. But just work on double/triple tonguing. You can get better quicker in this area. Since I now have a good instructor I improved my technique a lot on those techniques. He wants me to do it more like doo-ga and more at the end of my tongue.
Good luck george!!

1910 Conn Perfected Wonder Video
I plan on making videos of my old horns. I will explain the horn and give a brief demo on the horn. This is my 1910 Conn Perfected Wonder:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr0j0pXvgSQ
I don't rehearse them..lol -
RE: Trumpet / Cornet, Parts Needed
You should be able to gen one from a horn repairman.

RE: Favorite Cornet
@King_Conng what model is that? I have played a number of king cornets in the same class of Ambassador Cornets. Much better cornet thanthe Olds.

RE: Martin Band Instruments (Non-Committee) Club
I had a beautiful 1921 Silver Martin Superlative Cornet. I gave it to a very promising student in High School. It played every bit as well as my Committees.

RE: The Seven C's
I can do a double C on a good day but its so faint its NA. I can only do it on a couple of my old cornets. Can't do anything above high E (if that) on a trumpet.

Thats the way I looked at it Mike. -
RE: Martin Committee Club
I have three Committee Cornets..much cheaper than trumpets. I gave one to my granddaughter, but she has already put a dent in it and does not oil the valves properly.
I think she would rather play trumpet anyhow..so I bought her a used conn on ebay for $ 175 and taking the Committee back :).
There is a girl in 11th grade in a nearby school who is in County,District, State, and eastern U.S. band. She wants to borrow one for a solo "Fantaisis Brillante" next month. (Obviously its intended for Cornet). If it turns out that she really loves the horn, my wife decided at the end of the day we will give her the horn. Hopefully it will help take her places.

RE: Favorite Cornet
Very nice.
One Horn I am still looking for is a Conn early 1900's New York Wonder, or WonderPhone to go with my Two Conn Perfected Wonders, Conn-Conqueror, and New Wonder (80A). -
RE: Great Idea!
Nice to have a Trumpet Board again, even though I only play cornets!! I was going crazy without the board. I am sure the format will get better with age!!!
