    • RE: Martin Committee Club

I have three Committee Cornets..much cheaper than trumpets. I gave one to my granddaughter, but she has already put a dent in it and does not oil the valves properly.

I think she would rather play trumpet anyhow..so I bought her a used conn on ebay for $ 175 and taking the Committee back :).

There is a girl in 11th grade in a nearby school who is in County,District, State, and eastern U.S. band. She wants to borrow one for a solo "Fantaisis Brillante" next month. (Obviously its intended for Cornet). If it turns out that she really loves the horn, my wife decided at the end of the day we will give her the horn. Hopefully it will help take her places.

    • RE: Favorite Cornet

Bought a '51 Conn 36A Concert Grand. Its Absolute mint. Looks like it was just made. Seller told me a woman's deceased father had it and really took care of it. I got it for $250 plus shipping. I tried to send the guy another $150. He wouldn't take it.

You won't see one like this for any amount. I can't believe its mine!!!

    • Waxing inside of MP

Using q-tips I waxed the inside of my cornet MP in the throat and backbore. Reason..especially cornet mp's ..spit clings to the inside and causes a bit of "spitty" sound. Waxing does a great job of minimizing this.

Well, I did it. Conn 1947 36A. It might be to "trumpety" for me but my understanding is that Conn managed to make it sound a bit more mellow than the King Master. Can't wait to get it.

    • Mouthpieces

I currently use a Yahama 11C4. I use a short shank for my old vintage horns before 1920 and for my newer ones newer than 1940 my long shank.

Theoretically my two Conn 36A's came with the conn short shank (I believe). So I tried the short shank. But when I went to the long shank..wow.. what a great bright sound. I normally like a dark sound but for this horn, bright is good.

      This is an amazing horn!!

    • RE: Well, old age has finally caught up with me

George..You only go around once. You should be seen by a major Medical Center. Preferably one that teaches. I am very fortunate to have Penn State Hershey Medical Center 20 minutes away. We have used them for 50 years..My primary care physician is from there.

Both the wife and I have had serious issues where we used the facilities. It can make a difference.
      Good Luck!!!

I think I am good fore mouthpieces. I use a short shank Yamaha 11C4. I really need to pull the tuning slide an extra inch but it blows so much easier.

      Take care!!!

    • RE: The Seven C's

I can do a double C on a good day but its so faint its NA. I can only do it on a couple of my old cornets. Can't do anything above high E (if that) on a trumpet.

Nice to have a Trumpet Board again, even though I only play cornets!! I was going crazy without the board. I am sure the format will get better with age!!!

    • Favorite Cornet

In the past 2 years I have played 27 Cornets. Finally settled on my absolute favorite: a 1910 Conn Perfected Wonder. Very dark and sweet. A couple days after I got it I saw another 1908 Perfected wonder with the mechanism that adjusts the tuning slide and the 3 Valve slides. Its in fabulous shape like the 1910 but I don't like it as well. I also have a 1907 Conn-Conqueror. Its OK but not in the same league.
