When I was a kid, I remember mom and dad had this. I went a few decades without even thinking about it, but when I acquired a record player several years ago, I immediately went on the hunt for this thing. I enjoy it, and the kids love it.

Great recording, but does anyone know any of the personnel or who recorded it? The label says Chapell's Studio in London, but doesn't give any more details.

      Curious.....

      I found this:

Seems Anita Kerr did lots of arranging and even composing, but for any recording she did, there are no names of other participants. It's always group names like "The Anita Kerr Singers" or "Anita Kerr Brass". Only thing I found out was that for a short time, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass were "Anita Kerr Brass". Don't think you'll get much further than that.

Anita Kerr and the Tijuana Brass? Weird. I'd sure like to hear that!

@Kehaulani Actually, the remark was that "the members of Tijuana Brass, including Herb Alpert, were Anita Kerr brass."

Yes. I don't necessarily mean Anita, herself, but her style. Imprecise wording.

@barliman2001 Yeah, that was what I found mostly - just Anita Kerr with only generic names for her groups. The Tijuana Brass angle is, well, intriguing. I would have guessed that.... never.

This was recorded at Chappell Studios in London in 1975. https://www.discogs.com/de/Anita-Kerr-Hallelujah-Brass/release/7530512

It was part of a series Hallelujah Brass, Woodwinds, Guitar and Voices. They were recorded for a Nashville company Word Records. I found no link between Herb Alpert and Word or Chappell. He had his own A&M label. Anita Kerr was signed by Warner and Word so I doubt that they worked together as there are no credits on any of the albums. Anita worked with Karl Garvin (Nashville) on trumpet on a 1971 production.

The kind of thing you would find with other generic-named bands in the discount bin.

BTW, Word record was a "Christian" music company from Nashville. (Always wondered why Handel's Messiah wasn't classified as "Christian Music". What was it, Buddhist?)

Just couldn't get a Handle on how to classify it. Maybe some day then we can all breathe a Messiah releaf!

The Anita Kerr Singers were also the back up for Al Hirt's "Honey in the Horn" album -- One of the best of Al's albums.

no possible way Alpert would have performed with Kerr.

I did not say he performed with Kerr, just that members of the Tijuana Brass performed with her. That's a huge difference.

Part of the confusion might be that she recorded (I think) three albums with the Mexacali Brass, which was a Tijuana Brass rip-off.

@barliman2001 no way TJB members would have performed either - they were under exclusive contracts.

Are you sure about that? L.A. first call musicians would be out of work if they had exclusive contracts.
