Favorite Cornet

This is the one I am playing the most. It's a 60's Large Bore Magna model. -
Pretty happy still with my Brasspire cornet
-
I still enjoy my '75 Olds Ambassador that I picked up off eBay for next to nothing...
- A few tiny dents here and there.
- Came with no MP (I had to buy a Bach 7C so I could play it - later picked up a nice used Conn3 MP off eBay).
- Had to get a brace resoldered and the main water key resoldered back on.
...Just needed a little TLC, and she is a beautiful, sweet sounding, cornet!
-
Thanks to adc for getting me interested in the York Perfec-Tone and for helping me get a tuning slide that would get mine to tune to A=440.
-
Let's see if I can make an image appear. The files on my computer were too large to download, so I tried Imgur.
-
Nope.
-
@J-Jericho I have had the too large file thing too.
-
I think I won't try to upload a pic until things get sorted out.
I have a 1923 Conn 80A, with working Bb/A mechanism, that is really fun to play. For years, when I considered buying a different cornet, I'd bring the 80A to compare and go home with just the 80A.
Since then I've acquired two other favored cornets: an Olds Recording and a Conn 5A Victor.
In my hands the Olds is more nimble, but the 5A Victor is more versatile -- the Victor works in brass band, jazz combo, trad jazz, and even blasting club rock (with a shallow mouthpiece).
-
@nieuwguyski You might really like a Conn 12A then. I like my 80As, but I LOVE my 12A!
-
My favorite cornet for noodling at home is a 1906/13 Boosey, 2 serial Nos, 06 valve block, 13 bell. Such a sweet sound but would be lost in a modern band.
If I ever had to play in a Brass Band (heaven forbid) I have a modern Besson Soverign, a much more powerful and brighter instrument.
Regards, Stuart.

Hello everyone, first post here on this forum. I have settled on an old 1977 bach 181ml strad cornet. Unfortunately, a few months ago someone stole the slides and valves, so for now my favorite horn is a first-version yamaha ycr-2310. The large bore and bell, combined with the right mouthpiece, gives it a flugel-like sound. For the life of me, I can't figure out why they didn't just take the whole horn, maybe so it can't be tracked via serial number? If anyone has some valves and slides for a strad, I'm looking...

Guys, I tried using Imgur to upload the pic of my '75 Olds Ambassador, and ended up just using the built in uploading tool at the end of all the little icons, on the far right "Upload File", and it worked!

Welcome!
A thief will steal a penny from you and take great pleasure and satisfaction that he has power to deprive you of the property that you earned, but still considers rightfully his. I hope you are able to find the criminal and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

This is deceitful criminality! One aspect of covetousness is not just the desire to possess what another has, but to prevent them from enjoying it as well! This act reveals a very scary side of human nature and underlines the need for us to get as much enjoyment as we can in the moment! Nothing lasts forever and justice shall prevail!

This is my Conn 36A " CONCERT GRAND "
I just figured out how to post a photo.
Some say this is one of the best cornets Conn ever made.
I don't know about that but it has a great cornet sound
and I have enjoyed having it.
More information can be found on the " CONN LOYALIST " website. -
Finally getting around to posting a photo of my
William Frank Cornet. It has no model number or name.
I believe it is either a special order or what was called
the " Classic ".
I bought it on Craigslist for $80.00 with a very nice case
4 or 5 years ago.
I had never heard of William Frank before, after doing a little
research I found out a lot about him.
He was a French Horn with the CSO and a maker of instruments.
He also was a Friend of Renold Schilke and eventually sold what was left
of his business to Schilke when Schilke started making trumpets.
This cornet has what looks like a Schilke mouthpiece receiver but
no one at Schilke could confirm it.
It's a great player and I use it whenever I sound Taps.

More information can be found on the " CONN LOYALIST " website. The "scuttlebutt" on the 36A was that Conn "borrowed" excessively from the King Master cornet design. What Conn did manage to do that King could not, was to make it sound like a cornet. I've played a '37 Silvertone and it was trumpet bright. It was a beautiful horn though. Conn "agreed" with King's assessment that they had borrowed too much from the Master model and instead of face copyright litigation, discontinued the 36A. The 36A is a very special cornet indeed.

Thanks for the replies.
- Classic story: It was vandalized while at an out-of-town gig. I left it in its case backstage when on lunch break, and returned to find it in its state. I questioned around, but eventually had to leave the next day to travel.
- It is in nice shape for its age, considering it is in lacquer, but the inner slides have since been oxidizing in its case with no outer slides to cover. I can't post a picture, it states that the file size is too large, and its only 1.28mb. Is there a way to get around this?

Here is an early Cornet. 2 days to go and 401 donuts already. Googled it to see why? Very old. Very rare. Be curious to see what it goes for.

@Tobylou8
A friend has a King Master that is missing a valve guide.
It's a 3 slot guide and he hasen't been able to find one.
He's not a player and has 0 interest in the horn which belonged
to his father that he played back in the late 40"s after
he got out ofthe Army in a local band.
I would love to play both horns and compare the difference.
