2 harmons, cup, 2 straight mutes, bucket, plunger, derby hat, felt mute, not so much of a mute bag more of a mute holdall.

Nearly as good as I need to be. Not nearly as good as I want to be).

My mute bag is a ratty old backpack, so I stuff all sorts of things in it:

                • Sheet music
                • Snack
                • Water bottle for long rehearsals
                • 4-mouthpiece holster with whatever I think I'll need that day. (Usually only two pieces in there unless I'm doubling)
                • Jo-Ral copper bubble (harmon)
                • Best Brass mini straight mute
                • Denis Wick adjustable aluminum cup
                • H&B bucket
                • Rubber plunger

I find the music nearly never calls for anything else. Derby hat can be emulated by playing into the music stand, and no conductor has ever complained to the section over it.

I would like to replace the bucket with something else that's easier to put on quickly. But I'm not sure I can justify the expense, plus right now we have matching red&white buckets across the section.

The Bubble mute is really better in aluminum, I think. Copper is so heavy it falls out easily. I got it as a gift 18 years ago and somehow still didn't wear it out.

The mini straight is used as a straight, it sounds nearly identical to my larger DW straight. It sits further up the bell but seems to do the same thing. It's also small enough to use on plunger solos, for variety.

                YTR-6810 piccolo
                Burbank Eb/D
Various antique cornets & horns in various keys

Mike, minus the Crown Royal felt mute, we have a nearly identical composite. While my Bucket is a Soulo, my straight and cup mutes are Stone lined. Otherwise, identical equipment, as after all we ARE both Internists!

                            Hi Dr-GO,
Its great to see that you carry Narcan! No joke, Narcan is one of those things that can be the difference between someone's life and death. I think all cops and proper emergency personnel should be in-serviced and required to carry this stuff given the epidemic we now face.

Nice. I don't use a medical bag any more. I don't need much in the Emergency Department. Here's a pic of what is actually in my pockets at work ... along with a description of what other people think is in my pockets. 😉

Depends upon the gig and the folder. Basic are Tom Crown copper base straight mute, H&B cup and WaWah, plus a hardware store plunger. Available are an assortment of H&B straight, cup, and bucket mutes, Harmon mutes, Shastock cup and practice mute, H&B pixie and derby mute, very inexpensive (but far from cheap) Chinese practice mute.

I have yet to find a mute stand that I like enough to buy, so sometimes it's a challenge to keep juggling mutes from being awkward. One of the members at TM made his own mute holder from copper wire. It was simple, awesomely beautiful, and carefully well-made. I searched for it before TM's demise to catch another glimpse of it but could not find it. I'll probably have to make my own very similar to the one that inspired me years ago.

I always carry two bags - my gig bag, usually filled with my Buescher Aristocrat cornet, the Olds Studio and my Courtois 154R flugel and my "all else" bag with the following emergency kit: valve oil, cleaning rod, cork and slide grease, small can of WD-40, small multitool, sewing kit, spare reading glasses, music pegs, music light, spare batteries; 3-peg Hercules stand; mute holder; music stand (the big gale-safe foldable K&M). And of course the basic mute set:

Jo-Ral cup with two different felt inlays
