So, for lead players that have their parts that hang a good part of the time above staff, I imagine less bathroom breaks are needed.

I remember the days when my parts did that. ☺

What does this supposed to be meaning ?

I haven't seen any non-peaceful responses. Some generalizations corrected, and disambiguiation, some restatement of pertinent facts, all in a spirit of accord.

Or are you suggesting that you are about to blow an o-ring because everything you said isn't being accepted at face value, and you are trying to erase the conversation so that it never happened ? If so, you need a different kind of doctor.

I was afraid that my posts might have offended some people,
      so I deleted my posts.

      It's that simple.

Please do not insinuate that I "need a different kind of doctor".
      Be nice.

@Richard-III said in Could you have a metal allergy?:

      Thanks for all the info.

Richard-III you are so welcome. Hope all does work out for your current mouthpiece. If you do notice any of the symptoms starting, one option is gold plating. Gold chops does this for $35. I think it would be worth the try as gold has a great feel and less of a chance of developing a contact dermatitis. Plastic mouthpieces would be an alternative.

Thanks. I was just asking for others and out of curiosity. I've never had an issue or allergic reaction with any mouthpiece. I don't know why as I've had reactions to metal everywhere else on my body. I've also played really old mouthpieces that were quite worn and the plating very thin with no problems. And I'm talking about many hours a day, every day for years and no reaction. I also play on horns with the lacquer removed with no problems. True that wearing a ring or watch for 16 hours a day is not the same as playing 2-5 hours a day. Exposure level is obviously different. The people who are reactive must be extremely reactive. I would ask them if they have the same issues with rings, watches and piercings.

I've never had a headache from playing with out of tune "musicians", but it is a pain in the butt.

In these situations, I just learned to turn the other cheek!

      I'll bet that helps.

@Estevao My eyesight is pretty poor anymore. I wear +5.0 contacts just for walking around, and +1.75 cheaters to read. My solution to reading music was to scan it all and put it on the biggest iPad I can get, in ForScore. With aggressive cropping, and also extensive cleanup - often pixel by pixel - to get rid of smudges, smears, schmutz that others can ignore but which my eyes take longer to recognize and disregard. I can get a remarkably clean and legible sheet out of a very nasty, crufty scan, and about 125% larger than if it was on a clean page. In some cases our original paper was the result of a scan of a scan of a photocopy of a copy of a copy and compared to that I have a few that are closer to 175% of original.

I also turn the brightness on the screen all the way up. Really helps.

THEN you also have the option of turning it sideways and viewing half a page at a time. You have more page turns, and it will be harder to read very far ahead, so you will want to make use of the Links feature to help with jumps, possibly even in repeats and certainly in dal segno and coda jumps.

I am playing in small groups coached by local Phil players. They (and I) have done their research (studies by UC (Colorado ) and CSU). Last week the pros asked if I had a bell cover. I responded that I had left my Crown Royal bag in my kit bag. Then I remembered that I was wearing a Buff neck sleeve. I took it off and wrapped it around the bell. I could not tell any difference in tone or playability. Problem solved.

Another note -- the phrase "Science is Science" has become trite. Science is a process. The "Conclusions"
      can and will vary considerably.

Here is another article on prevalence of tinnitus in musicians, based on instruments they play. Wind instruments take the biggest hit.

I had surgery for basel cell near the tip of my left ear. That ear looks like Spock's from Star Trek. But I guess I caught it early enough because no problems since the surgery five years ago.

Me, too, Doc. He used to post a lot at TH but haven't seen anything from him there in quite some time. I always found Kehaulani an interesting character, and a fighter who really wanted to play the trumpet the way he had before those series of strokes. He had a short fuse, but I probably would have one too if I had to go through what he had. I really respect the guy.
