First practice using trumpet mask

Tomorrow night we move from practicing in an outdoor gazebo to a new and larger indoor location. I am using a woman's nylon sockette ( they wear with sandals, I think ) and it doesn't seem to muffle the sound so I think things should go well. We have to vacate the room after 30 minutes of playing and wait for the air to change ( not sure how long this is going to be ) and when not playing we will be wearing face masks.
At the other trumpet site there is a long thread on whether music instruments are releasing dangerous levels of aerosols or whether thy are not. I haven't formed an opinion because how the hell do I know if a trumpet , for example, emits dangerous levels of aerosols or not. I just want to play and hopefully get back to some concert gigs, and to me the mask over the bell of my horn did not affect my playing by trying it out at home.

Research in the UK shows that trumpets/cornets do not require covers, as less aerosols are released than by breathing when wearing a mask. Flutes are the worst as air is blown straight across the mouthpiece with some force.

The first person that tells me my trumpet needs a mask will be looking for another trumpet player. At rehearsals, we already have to sanitize our hands and have our temps taken before entering the rehearsal room, in addition to wearing a face mask when not playing.

Yeah, I don't like it either, but here all bands are under the same restrictions. Well, yeah, I guess so. I am my own worst critic and when I play alone I end up tearing myself apart. At least when playing with others, some are worse players than me so I feel good about myself...ha ha !!! -
The Spanish Flu of 1918 died down during August and nearly went away. But it came back with a vengeance in October, because the weather started getting colder and people started moving back indoors and having large gatherings. COVID isn't flu. But it is a viral epidemic. Don't take unnecessary chances.

Yes, what's starting to happen world-wide with Covid bears that out. Nova Scotia has been pretty clean during the summer. The minute things start to change the government and health officials will act quickly. Our band will be shut down with the snap of a finger the way it was in March, and that's why I'm willing to live with masks and what not for however long is necessary. And at 84 I really can't take chances. -

I am playing in small groups coached by local Phil players. They (and I) have done their research (studies by UC (Colorado ) and CSU). Last week the pros asked if I had a bell cover. I responded that I had left my Crown Royal bag in my kit bag. Then I remembered that I was wearing a Buff neck sleeve. I took it off and wrapped it around the bell. I could not tell any difference in tone or playability. Problem solved.
Another note -- the phrase "Science is Science" has become trite. Science is a process. The "Conclusions"
can and will vary considerably.
