    • glad there's no fighting here

I absolutely hated the fighting in Trumpet Herald and in Trumpet Master.

Long-time members who acted like bullies year after year.

Moderators who let them get away with it.

Moderators banning the victims rather than the bullies.

But this new forum is a pleasant environment full of nice people.

      Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • RE: Great Idea!

Thank you for creating this Web site.

I m slowly dying of Congestive Heart Failure,
so I am too weak to leave the house,
too weak to play trumpet anymore.

This Web site is my only contact with the outside world now.
You cannot imagine how much that means to a "shut-in".
      Sharing trumpet info.
      Telling a silly joke.
Asking a question about movies or TV.
It really does mean a lot.
      Thank you.

The heading for the Lounge section says that no religious posts are allowed.

I will obey that restriction by NOT posting my prayer request.

      With Trumpet Master gone.
I worried about what would happen to Rowuk.

What will he do to replace TM in his life?

Then I realized that Rowuk can still kick puppies and tear the wings off of flies.
So he can still stay busy.

      :^)

      PS -
      For those who don't remember,
10 years ago Wilmer Wise threatened me with physical violence because I dared to defend famous mouthpiece maker Vincent Bach that Wilmer Wise said was a racist.,
      so Rowuk banned ME !!!!!!!!
Not that I still hold a grudge about the matter.... :^)

      moshe

To clarify the matter which might seem vague above:

A long time ago Vincent Bach published a mouthpiece brochure which included recommendations for black musicians.

Wilmer Wise posted that was proof that Vincent Bach was a racist.

I said that Wilmer should not make such a condemning accusation against someone who was not around to defend himself.

Wilmer then posted that my defending a racist was proof that I am a racist.
Wilmer said that he wanted to do to me what he once did to a racist in Baltimore, in other words, beat me to a pulp.

I threw a fit and protested to the moderators that Wilmer's posts should not be tolerated because they violated specific TM posting rules.

Rowuk then deleted almost all of the posts that were exchanged about the matter and Rowuk banned me from TM for my "bad behavior".
But Rowuk allowed Wilmer Wise to remain in TM without even requiring that he apologize.

But that was 10 years ago, so I barely remember the matter ☺

A man decides it’s about time he gives in and moves into a retirement home. He notices a woman staring at him as he gets settled in his room. Later, eating his meal he notices her again, just staring at him. She’s not even eating. Just sitting there. Everywhere he turns, there she is, staring. He finally can’t let this go any longer and decides to confront her.
"Excuse me, ma'am, but I couldn’t help but notice that you keep looking at me everywhere I seem to go"
"Oh, I'm so sorry, she said, I couldn’t help but notice you look so much like my third husband"
Now he felt a little bad for calling her on it like that, so he said, "How many husbands did you have?"
      "Two"

After 34 years of marriage, my wife decided that she wanted a divorce.
      I still don't understand why.
She received the final court decree on her birthday, April 3.

Because of my severe health problems,
I have spent 2 years desperately trying to get into a nursing home,
      but I have been unsuccessful.

So I have been daydreaming about the above post event happening to me.

But what are the chances that one of the other residents is a slender 20-year-old lady who wants to date a 63-year-old who is near death and has no money to his name?

I am a romantic trapped in Stephen Hawkings' body.

I frequently reminisce about my very earliest memories,
when I was about 5 years old in 1961.

We got a fancy new console TV.
      Black and white.
      With a remote control !!!!!!!!!!

But you would have to see it to believe it.
There was only 1 button on the remote control.
And when you pressed that button,
a motor actually turned the dial.
You could see and hear the channel dial turning clock-wise.
      click-click-click-click.
And it could only get you one UHF station.
You had to go to the TV and turn a separate UHF dial by hand to the UHF station you wanted.
So that when the remote went to channel 11 then 12 then 13 then UHF, that would be the UHF channel yu would get.

It was like the cheesy equipment you see on old episodes of the original Star Trek.

But we had some of the best TV technology of the time !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have owned 5 Conn 5A cornets over the years, from mint condition to terrible condition, and it was my favorite model of cornet.
Even better than my two Conn 9A cornets,
because the Conn 5A had a more gentle, beautiful tone.

      Second-best was a 1953 Conn 34A, identical to a 1940's Conn 12A but with a brass bell.

Copper bells look more beautiful, but every time I close my eyes and listen, the brass bells sound more beautiful than the copper bells.

      @pss
As Donald Reinhardt used to say,
mouthpiece placement depends on embouchure type.

Downstream uses more upper lip than lower lip.

Upstream uses more lower lip than upper lip.

So many people have posted insulting things,
I completely regret having created this thread
that gave them a forum to vent.

Just an idea. Maybe something so intimate and potentially prickly as discussing someone's personal God shouldn't be done in such an open forum for to do so comes the risk of one's feelings getting hurt either intentionally or unintentionally. It takes a very thick skin to discuss God on an open forum.

      My feelings are not hurt.

Before I retired and was physically disabled,
I served 2 years as pastor of a church among nice people
and 10 years as evangelist among vicious people.

My mistake was thinking that everyone here would just read my request and keep it in mind if they felt led to do so.

I honestly did not expect anyone to be snotty.
I honestly did not expect anyone to post replies at all.

For 10 years I expected it from anti**********
but I did not expect it from friends here.

      I blame myself.
I opened the door and they felt free to do it.

I hope the administrator either locks this thread
or, better yet, deletes this thread.
I don't want to be the source of antagonism here.
I'll leave permanently rather than be the source of antagonism that ruins the site for everybody.

When I was still working, one of my friends was the maintenance person for the same store I worked in.
A woman in one of the departments was never comfortable with the temperature. It was either too hot or too cold. She constantly demanded, pleaded with my friend to do something about it......every day. At least.
One day, he decided to surprise her and showed her that he had installed her own thermostat, right there on the column near her work area. See, he said, turn it this way and it will get warmer, and this way, to the left, it will get cooler, just like that!
      She never, ever, complained again.
      End of story.
Not so fast, there. He, my friend, never wired it to anything...and when she retired, he gave her the thermostat in a box with a bow on it. Here. Now you can be comfortable wherever you go, he said.

      I love that story !!!!!!!

I wonder if it also explains how those little pills do so much for men...

I am still stunned by how beautiful those paintings are.

Some of them remind me of being on my grandparents' farm 60 years ago,
a time and place that I miss so much it moves me to tears.

So your paintings not only speak to my eyes,

Well, there are some prayers or prayer requests that wouldn't be appropriate for this kind of site because they express the primacy of one particular religion or derogate others. But there are more generic prayers that, while not everyone's "cup of tea", should not be overly offensive.

But my religion is the only one that is right.
