Parallel lines have so much in common. It's a shame they will never meet!

All I can say so far is that this is one of the best mobile experiences I've had ever!

RE: need perfect pitch to play trombone ?
@nieuwguyski said in need perfect pitch to play trombone ?:
I played trombone for 20 years or so, and was relatively decent toward the end. I don't have perfect pitch, but have pretty good relative pitch.
I played for years with a trombone player who had perfect pitch, and he was quite an excellent player. But he freely admitted that he didn't think perfect pitch was much of an advantage over excellent relative pitch.
The answer is ........ no. If the internet is correct, only 1 in 10,000 have absolute/perfect pitch. If only 1 in 10,000 joined bands, tuning would be easier! I have perfect /absolute pitch. Discovered it by accident when singing in choir. They were amazed at how I could remember the starting note on all our acapella pieces. In high school I was the pitch pipe for our chorus. It certainly makes it easier to play in tune and to let others know when they aren't within the section. When starting out in a community band, I commented that the person playing the tuning pitch was always a little sharp. I was informed that the director wanted the band tuned to 442. Made sense as to why they were sharp! I agree that it isn't a big advantage. Perfect pitch and $5 will get me a Venti Americano at Starbucks!

RE: Trumpets Made ONLY by Their Maker
I'll throw Fred Powell's name into the mix. Pretty sure he was instrumental ( ) in designing the Conn Vintage One. He has a very loyal following and is growing. He restored a Couesnon flugel for a friend and it sounds better than new. Here's a post from TH with some good info.
https://www.trumpetherald.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=143057#topHe also has a FB page but no website.

@A-N-A-Mendez No-Toby and I had a dialog about a post but it was civil and ended well, and we're both on here now
I think it was just a coincidence. It had been down a few months earlier. What is curious is no one is willing to divulge who the owner is/was. Very early posts at TM suggest that the owner is known by more than just their screen name. Not that it matters, it's just a point of curiosity now.

Now that certainly sweetens the deal. There's nothing better than Octave Oil for playing in the upper register. Heck I oiled my valves and blew a middle C and out of the bell of my trumpet popped a high C! That stuff is so slick, high notes just slide out of the horn. I think Maynard used to use it along with DHC Lip Balm. Another great product from Gottcha Inc..I see a business opportunity. Someone is going to market a valve oil that makes high notes easier. And why not? There are several lips balms that (indirectly) promise high notes to those who use them.

Y'ALL QUIT TEASING ME!!!!!! WHERE can I buy these products? I'm tired of practicing!

I may "know" who the owner is!

RE: LONG TONES
Well, I posted over THere and will post here. Longtones are tough, boring, not glamorous, but can make all the difference in the world for a player with endurance and control. It's why my Batslap avatar says "LONGTONES"!!

RE: RIP Trumpet "Master"
The "lead" I have indicates that Rowuk is not the owner. The owner may be at TH but I haven't gotten that far. I doubt the owner would have a strong dislike for his own site. I haven't been at TH long enough to get to know anyone that wasn't already a refugee from TM. IF the owner is who I've been lead to believe it is, he is not dead, so that scenario is out. What's the screen name of the alleged "owner" at TH? I'b be interested in reading their posts.

RE: Play Ball
Baseball?
I was born, bred, and raised, and diehard NY Mets fan!
As a kid growing up in upstate New York (Poughkeepsie) -- roughly 2 hours, including traffic, from NYC, we would always go down to Shea Stadium (now Citi Field) and see the Mets play ball. So many wonderful memories!
Edit (to make this trumpet related): Can you imagine playing trumpet in the stadium, out on the field at 2nd base or something? Or play like The Beatles did back in the day, and have so many screaming fans, that you can't even hear yourself play? LOL...
LET'S GO METS!!!
I remember watching the Phillies and Mets on Philly channel 17 in June of '69 with my grandfather. We really didn't watch much baseball growing up and I didn't know all the teams, but to a me, the Mets name sounded cooler than the Phillies. Grandpa (who was from Philly) asked me who I was rooting for and I said , "The Mets"! "Humph, they're terrible", was his reply!

Pulling my old Chase vinyl out off a dusty shelf now! Guess I'll be back in the 70s for awhile again today! Keep it coming, the 70s were a pretty good time (the parts that I remember anyway!).

Groovy man!!
