Kehaulani reached out to me on a different forum and asked me to post this message on his behalf. I've not been part of this thread, and am not commenting on it personally. I'm just posting this message for him.

"Mike has graciously agreed to post this message for me. I was involuntarily logged out of every one of my sites. Logging back in to TrumpetBoards has been especially problematic. Everything I have done over a three-day period has been to no avail. My solution is really to just forget it and withdraw from the site.
But before I do, there is a current thread that my withdrawal is pertinent to answering its question as well as the reason I'm just going ahead and withdrawing.
For the most part this Forum is more of a social club than a real exchange of musical knowledge. That's O.K. And for those who use it for that, I hope they enjoy the camaraderie. Very few members have any real musical depth or experience to pass along. This is also O.K. This is not judgmental, just an observation.
It's been pointed out that there is an increase of people signing up. I would counter that many of these don't return, either.
I need as many answers as I can get. This Forum seldom does it. I can get the same and more from Trumpet Herald. Yes, it has some jack-asses. I can be one. And IMO, there is WAY too much “paralysis-by-analyses”, micro-nit picking, threads that can't stick to the subject and, sometimes, just plain old misinformation.
But it has a much larger contributor base than this Forum and once you've become accustomed to its “contributors” can be of considerable help. The kind of help I need is seldom to be found here.
So, I hope this answers the Thread question from my POV and, in doing so, also explains why I'm not going to be an active member. It's not negative.
I thank Mike very much for posting this and appreciate it very much.
Aloha nui loa, Kehaulani"
Very sorry this is happening.
New valves need to be broken in. Some more than others. Wipe down the valves and the valve casings with a lint-free cloth and then reoil. Do this every day for 2-4 weeks. If they're still sticking, return the horn.
I'm not a tech, so the following is just my "2 cents" about valves.
Valves sticking only when playing (and not sticking when you're not playing), suggests your hand-positioning (at least in part) may be contributing.
Valves sticking after the horn warms up (both when playing and not playing), suggests it's a problem with the valves.

How easy was it to get those descriptions off the nice hardwood floor?
Were they permanent or eraseable?
LOL. Definitely didn't use permanent. Didn't want my wife to see it. The number of horns I own is a closely guarded secret.

It’s the less popular Bach Strad 239 C trumpet, ML bore. I still have it.
I have the same horn, a 1980 Bach Stradivariuis 239 CML Trumpet.

My take on this is perhaps a bit unconventional, but I would insist that between those two horns, it does not matter. Regardless of which on you pick, there will always be something in the back of your mind questioning that choice.
That being said, I do not believe in a lot of this synergy blah. I do not believe that most musicians have a "well formed concept" that would guide them only to specific hardware ....
I agree. It's rarely ever the hardware that makes the difference. Buy the horn that inspires you the most. And although this isn't always possible, especially with boutique horns, play the horn before you buy it.
I play a Bach 43*. It's been my main horn since 1975. It's perfect for me for 2 reasons. First, I'm emotionally attached to it, having played it for 45+ years. Second, it's what I'm physically used to playing. For me, it has nothing to do with the horn.

@stephanurus said in Trumpet won’t play:
Hey! I just got it to play! But I had to blow quite hard. I used to play cornet 60 years ago and don’t remember the cornet being this hard to play. It requires an almost superhuman effort to sound anything. That can’t be right.
Do you have a friend who plays the trumpet? If so, let him/her try the horn, to see if it's difficult to play. If it is, then take it to a tech.
Mike
All things being equal, I say keep the old treads unlocked. This would give people the ability to add updates and related questions. But I'm happy with whatever the admins/moderators want.
On a related note, there's a resurrected thread on TH, that started with a legitimate question about pricing, but reemerged 2 years later with hyperbole and infighting. Maybe this is a good argument for locking old threads.

This trumpet is a production model from Olds. The catalog page shown below indicates it was intended for marching band, as Rowuk noted. I (formerly known as Bob Pixley…lol) still have it and it’s still in the case in a closet.
Dale, for some reason, I thought you sold yours.

Yes, I need medical help, or maybe more disposable income.

Yes, and you can pay Doc so many horns per visit.

@administrator said in How many is too many?:
@tmd do you ever play the alto horn?
What are you my wife or something? (Just kidding.)
The horn is just for fun. I got it at Baltimore Brass. At the time, they had a half dozen of them, all priced to sell. And at only $100, for me, it was worth the price.
I occasionally take it to jam sessions. Only problem is that I have to transpose everything for Eb/F horn. I use a flugelhorn mouthpiece, making it easier to play, although I realize that a real Alto Horn player might cringe at my choice.

@davidpaul said in Brand-New 1971 Olds Ambassador Trumpet Possible?:
My wife is insisting that the Ambassador trumpet should no longer be allowed in our bed at night. She claims the cold brass is uncomfortable on here back when she accidently touches it. Is she being unreasonable?
Tell your wife that it's unsafe to sleep with the trumpet on her back. Lay the trumpet on the bed, between you two. And make sure the 2nd valve slide is facing up, to prevent STDS (sudden trumpet death syndrome).
@barliman2001 said in Brand-New 1971 Olds Ambassador Trumpet Possible?:
@davidpaul For your own sake, the trumpet should be weaned.
During the weaning process, do you recommend scheduled oiling or demand oiling?
@davidpaul said in Brand-New 1971 Olds Ambassador Trumpet Possible?:
After all, the poor thing is over 50 years old and has hardly ever been played.
We're still talking about your trumpet, right?

@administrator said in Arriving next week - Bach 184 Cornet:
Good choice. What do you plan on using it for?
Thanks. About 95% of my trumpet playing is in a jazz trio. So I'll likely use it on certain gigs in that setting.
@dale-proctor said in
Well, we both have a 43 Strad and an Olds L-12, so why not get a Bach 184?…lol
Great minds think alike.

Nice! I have a large bore 184G from the early 1990s and really enjoy playing it.
A 184G large bore is pretty cool. I had been looking for a 184 at the right price for a couple years.
Mike
New addition to the herd, arriving next week. A Bach 184 Cornet from the late 1980s.
Mike
@oldpete Not sure. Did you reach out to them?

Were there just certain years for the Ambassador ?
Mine was from the mid-60's. I believe TMD's is from the late 50's. His is a nice horn as well.
I have a pair of Ambassadors. A trumpet and cornet, both from 1957. Both are nice horns, well made, great valves, good core. I'll leave the student horn vs pro horn debate to others. I'll just say I like them, but they are not my go-to horns.
I had my 1957 trumpet refurbished by Kanstul. Gary had his Ambassador fully "pimped out".

@j-jericho said in Is WWBW on the ropes?:
I placed two orders for routine cleaning/maintenance supplies toward the end of last year and have not received them, although I have been charged for the purchases. Communication from WWBW has consisted of various delays, including out of stock/back ordered, canceled order, shipped order to wrong recipient, will ship order promptly, will refund all charges, etc.
Prior to these difficulties, WWBW had treated me very well. Has anyone else had similar experiences?
From your post, it isn't clear what happened. But maybe the most important question is whether you asked for a refund, and did you get it?
As many of us know, Guitar Center owns WWBW, MusiciansFriend, Music123, and Music & Arts.
I've never had a serious problem ordering from these companies. And when requested, I've never had a problem returning an item or getting a refund. This includes orders placed in the last month.
