When asked for his opinion on the new US Space Force Anthem, USAF Chief of Staff General C. Q. Brown's response was “I’m sure it will grow on us.”
He was being far too kind, IMHO.

Mother to young son "what do you want to do when you grow up?
Son - "I want to be a trumpet player mummy".
Mother - "I'm sorry darling, you can't do both"
It seems that a lot of trumpet player jokes are interchangeable with fighter pilot jokes.
Here is one of me in 1976 with my Rock Band:
That is NOT what a rock band looked like in 1976. I guess you're just playing on the name?

As for the picture, I must say, Dale, you look like a very distinguished gentleman indeed.
GeorgeI was trying to appear so…lol. That was about 40 years ago, but I’m still playing!
And looking more distinguished than ever.

My room is 14 feet by 30 feet.
I have a 50 year old Pioneer amp that cuts out periodically on one channel. I have cleaned the switches and pots in it but it still cuts out. I ave a Shure SM81-CN and a 50 year old Shure PE5888.
I would like to keep the cost for all under $1500. Is that doable?
I had a Sansui amp/receiver from 1973 that did that. Had a pair of power transistors replaced, and that fixed it for a while, then it started up again. So I replaced it 25 years ago with a Kenwood that was reasonably priced. Saved myself the cost and ass-pain of repeated repairs. It's hard to find competent techs who still know how to work on in-circuit components.
@rowuk said in Why are so many threads just getting locked down?:
I would be happy to know what the community thinks. Maybe I am just too old and grumpy.
I think J. Jericho was on point with his comment:
"There are threads for which no new posts appear for sometimes many months at a time, but for which there is no more appropriate thread when someone adds a new post. It wouldn't make sense in these instances to start a new, identical thread when one already exists, especially when starting a new one would duplicate the title, cluttering things up, so to speak, and leave no previous context to which the new post is related."
As well, a locked thread takes up just as much space as an unlocked one, so I don't see the clutter issue.
Whether or not ROWUK is too old and grumpy is another issue; one which I will not attempt to resolve.

Well, I'm confused because I could swear, I've also heard from credible sources that it's not air speed that gets you playing high, ref. you can play very high, very softly. What am I missing?
In my case, I can play higher by playing softer. It's harder to play the same high note at blastissimo.
I don't think you're missing anything, Kehaulani. It's another case of someone stating their "visualization" as if it were actual physics.
I suspect we'll be hearing from Dr Go on this topic.
Hmmm... now that I think of it, "Dr Go" fits the topic in a way.

@j-jericho Before daylight savings time, people just adopted a "summer schedule" or "double summer schedule." In the former, they scheduled everything an hour earlier. In the latter, they scheduled everything hours earlier. Leave the clocks alone. Just change the schedule.
I agree. And I point this out in every DST discussion. DST doesn't save any daylight, and adapting schedules to nature makes much more sense. The only thing dumber than DST is "permanent" DST; only our government could cook that one up and suggest that it's a good idea.
Below is a post from the oTHer site, and from a trusted source. I've found that many retailers try to stock Hetman"s, but are having a hard time with supplies. Sam Ash, Dillon, WWBW and ACB all keep trying. I think Sam Ash has #1 right now and ACB has #1 and 2 in stock. A while back, I got #1 and #3 from WWBW online, but found #2 in a local store. It's out there; you just have to work at it.

Hetman is still very much in business and making their wonderful products. There have been some serious delays in distribution over the past few years. From what I hear now, there is a supply chain issue with them getting their bottles which is causing some major delays. I order hetman from several different vendors and they sell out of what they get pretty quickly, which then makes stock levels at the store level pretty low. Hetman is still one of my best sellers and one of my favorite oils.
As for the Meinlschmidt oil... Meinlschmidt was the European distributor for Hetman for many years. With changes in EU regulation on oils and bottles along with slow delivery of Hetman, they needed to do something to fill the void, so they developed their own oils which are very similar. I am not a chemist nor do I know the formulas, they the Meinlschmidt oil is good. I ordered a bunch from them and have been starting to use it in the shop.

Sure seems quiet here. I think the last post was five days ago. Everyone OK?
Happy Easter to all.
This listing at Austin Custom Brass has a lot of similarity to yours. The location and style of bracing matches, but this one has a 3rd valve slide stop and no pinky ring. Looks like it might've had the connection for a mechanism on the first valve slide soldered over as well.
Trent doesn't mention the vintage, but the serial number would indicate 1924.

As a person who is less than wealthy, I am excluded from a lot of things that require wealth. I cope by doing as much as I can myself. Paying professionals outrageous rates for adjustments and minor repairs is out of the question. I've found that such information is guarded by practitioners to protect their incomes and exclude or discourage DIYers like myself. It's been difficult to discover good and 'open source' types of info. Most often I'm told to go patronize a pro.

Could the third valve be in backwards? Valve guide installed backwards making it look right?
