      @Dr-GO
      Thanks.
      It's been 8 years, Doc, but you know, I never really got over it and probably never will. She was something else.

      I truly understand. My wife is a cancer survivor. I remember those emotional days of surgery, radiation, chemo. I was there EVERY day to be by her side. She had an aggressive form of HER2+ breast cancer... AND A GREAT ONCOLOGIST. She is now 8 years out from therapy and remains cancer free.

      So happy to hear your wife is cancer free, Doc. I can well relate to the emotional experience you went through. My wife had pancreatic cancer and survived for two years after surgery ( WHIPPLE ), and she lived her life as normal as possible. But there were so many side effect after the surgery that times were often hard. I put my own life on hold to be at her side and, as my family doctor once said, I became her personal physician.

      The acid blocker I am on, known as Losec, was prescribed for me after two cases of bleeding ulcers in 2001 and 2002 and have been taking it with excellent results ever since. I will be talking to my doctor about whether or not I should stay on it or dump it while taking blood thinners.

      By the very interesting conversations here with all you medical giants. I am getting an education and am feeling less anxiety over my new condition. And I will discuss SOTALOL with my doctor, so thanks for that DOC.

      Good luck with the blood thinners. I've ben on them for serval years, with no negative consequences (so far).

      I wanted to ask you about that but wasn't sure it was the proper thing to do. You just lifted a veil of fear and gave me tremendous relief. Thank you, my friend

      George, sometimes it just takes time for the body to get adjusted to a new medication. I wouldn't jump to any conclusions yet.

      I understand. I won't jump to any conclusions, Kehaulani.

      I am concerned about blood thinners. In 2001 and 2002 I had bleeding ulcers and was put in an acid blocker for life. I know blood thinners can be hard on the stomach and can cause bleeding, so that will be a big concern for me when I sit down and discuss my options with the doctor.

    • Well, old age has finally caught up with me

      During my annual physical last month my doctor detected an irregular heartbeat. Last week I had an electro cardiogram and the results : atrial fibrillation. I'll be sitting down with my family doctor next week to see where we go next, which will no doubt include going on blood thinners.

      I turn 84 later this month and I have been lucky to have minor health issues. I am very active, and sometime amaze people at how straight I walk for an old goat. Anyway, the reason I am mentioning this health thing is because it has already started to affect my trumpet playing. Before even meeting with me, my doctor called in a prescription for for a pill I was to start taking immediately. Our doctor members will know the drug: METOPROLO. It slows down the heart rate. Well it also slowed me down, period. Thursday evening at 7 was to be the resumption of band practice.
      I did find that this new medication made me feel a little tired by late afternoon. Anyway, I always watch the 6 pm news and weather after dinner and I just dozed off and didn't awake until 7:30. I might have been able to get to practice in time to catch the last 15 minutes, but it just wasn't worth the effort. I'm not going to watch the news before practice next week !!!!!

      Ah, 3 marriages and 3 significant others. That adds up to about 57 years. Does that count? 😈

      NO ! But, I bet you could tell some really interesting stories to youngsters of what and what not to do before considering the taking of vows...☺

      I was married for 57 years before I lost my wife to cancer, so I know what it takes for a successful marriage and it's obvious to me that you and your husband know what it takes, too. Here's to a long, long love affair.

      Thank you, and everyone here for your help. One of my bandmates said he used Wrights so I guess I'll give that a go.

      @Dale-Proctor

      Yeah, my horns are always on display on stands in the music room. But I now have a satin cover that just slips over the two silver horns . Hey, they are pretty and I like to look at them...☺

      What brand of silver polish are you using ?

      @Dr-GO
      The tech that used to look after my horn back when things were normal, and he advised me to not use a silver polish cloth as they remove some silver every time you use them, so I have only used microfiber cloths on all my horns.

    • Caring for Silver Plate Horns

      For some time I have only owned one silver plate trumpet, but recently I got a great deal on a new Getzen 490 silver plate trumpet. The other is a 1952 Selmer that was cared for by a tech pre-covid days and I haven't been polishing it. It doesn't look very silverish these days. So now with two silver horn, can someone give me suggestions on what the best silver polish brands are and what is the proper way to polish a silver trumpet.

      Dale, I have a 1962 5A Victor and really love it. What is the difference between the 5A and the 9A ?

      The only thing I know for sure as far as my playing goes is that my on- the -staff-play suffered when I spent too much time doing difficult high range exercises.

      So I had to ask myself what is the point ? On a good day I can play a clean D above high C, and so far in the band I play in I have never had to play anything higher than a Bd.

      I become a very dark and mean person when I’m not playing enough - one of the many reasons I’ve never stopped. I like who I am a whole lot better when I’m playing, and so does everyone else!

      Especially your husband if you are married...☺
