RE: Mouthpiece too large?
@Kehaulani
I can admire gaudy, but that doesn't mean I would want to own it. Doc is a brash kinda guy so I feel this horn suits him...LOL ! -

@Dr-GO
That is one gorgeous horn, Doc. -
RE: Arturo Sandoval interview
Well that was the best 16 minutes I'll spend today, that's for sure. It was nice to hear his thoughts on getting that good sound and the importance of listening to singers. And one more interesting thing about Arturo is how he can smoke cigars and still get that big wind to play so beautifully. Thanks for that vid, Kehaulani.

RE: Phony players

I didn't think it was particularly beginner friendly. There's a video floating around by Clark Terry and he gets kids playing the blues immediately without a lot of extraneous information.
I think I'll have a look for that. One of Clark's tutorial videos was a big help to me in my 2016 comeback.

RE: The Blues
He lost me in a few places but I love how Wynton presented the information. There is a lot more to playing the blues than I ever thought. Thanks for that, J.Jericho.

RE: Health Benefits of Classical Music
Didn't put me to sleep but couldn't get over how big that baby was ...

RE: Wonder which Valve Oil they use.
I have never seen an orchestra using brass instruments like those. But it really sounded great.

RE: Covid-19 Closing Down Music Venues
All our band is doing right now is practicing once a week ( in an outdoor park setting ) when the weather allows. Only 17 of our 30 plus members are participating at the moment. Our usual summer tour of playing at nursing homes doesn't look like it will happen, even though most of them were outdoor venues. I really miss playing for an audience.

RE: Opinions on Valve Oils?
I'd use it but it's a pain having to order it from the USA at that stupid exchange rate. So far I haven't been able to find a Berp dealer in Canada. I don't have a beef with Hetman but I do admit to seeing some of that yellow stuff when my older horns sit to long unplayed.
-
RE: Opinions on Valve Oils?
Hetman has been good to me and with three grades it works well with my new to old batch of horns.

RE: Miles Davis 1955 “Comeback” at the Newport Jazz Festival
Now don't start throwing things at me but I have never been a student of his work and with me it was always a case of take him or leave him. But I have to say, he sounded pretty damn good here at Newport in 1955.

RE: Vale Ennio Morricone
In the Giufreddi series there are a lot of lip burners that are beyond my ability but I managed to play I Promessi Sposi but had to drop an octave on those high Cs near the end because my old chops were tiring. But, man, that was a pretty piece of music, and great playing by Giufreddi, of course.

RE: The One
Speaking of Getzen, I recently bought a new 490 at half price and though it is considered an intermediate horn I am really liking it as much, if not more than a couple of my professional horns.
Waiting for the picture!
I don't have an I-phone. The only thing I have is from the brochure...
That is a BEAUTIFUL horn, one that for sure would make my heart race!
So the Getzen is responsible for my medical condition...well the kick I get from playing it makes it all worth while...

@Dr-GO Well, you won't get one, sorry. Can't plug and unplug my USB chord into the wall. It's awkwardly under my desk out of reach.
@GeorgeB - I have a friend who plays first trumpet in a community orchestra and he's played his Capri for at least 20 years and loves it.
And I cancertainsly understand why.
