RE: Hello! Welcome to TB, who are you?
@WildWilly
Started at 10, yeah now the years make sense. I was 16 going on 17 when I first studied trumpet at a local conservatory of music. I played through the mid 50s and early 60s with a 5 piece combo. I stopped playing in 1965 and didn't touch a horn again until 2016. -
RE: Hello! Welcome to TB, who are you?
@IrishTrumpeter
Yeah, that's it, but the key I play it in would have the highest note a top space E and it sounds much better on the horn in a higher key. I saw an arrangement of it somewhere where the highest note was a G above the staff. I'm sure that would sound super great.
Even in that lower key you play now it will be good for developing the muscles in your chops. It not only sounds pretty but it's good for you, too... LOL ! -

@IrishTrumpeter
Is that Godfather piece titled Speak Softly Love ? I love that piece and play it often. It is a great practice piece for boning up on playing intervals. It will be good for you. I have it in two different keys: B minor and a transposed C minor, which I prefer. -
RE: Hello! Welcome to TB, who are you?
@WildWilly
Gee, WildWilly, I thought my coming back after a 50 year layoff was a big deal, but 65 years ? Wow. Congrats. I am 84, how old are you ?
Also, I have a feeling you will be doing just fine in two or three months. I started playing again in the spring of 2016 and was playing first chair with the local Horizons band in the fall. These days I am playing with this areas highly rated brass and reed band and having a ball. Well, that was until Covid 19 came along.
All the best. -
RE: Doc's tribute to Harry James
They do it for film. You'd think they would do it for Music, too. It really bothers me when I talk to young musicians and they never heard of Harry James, Bobby Hackett, etc. Heck some don't even know who Chet Baker was. So sad.

RE: Doc's tribute to Harry James
@grune
Well playing for Harry sure rubbed off on Joe Graves. If I wasn't told differently, I'd swear that is Harry playing. Thanks for that vid and the ones that go along with it. -
RE: Opinions on Valve Oils?
Kehaulani, you have the best interest of others in your heart, that is for sure.
Hey, Doc, that is so kind of you to say that about Kehaulani because that is exactly how I think of him.

George, I just wish you the best and hope you can regain your heal
Hey, Butch, good to hear from you. I've been on meds now for close to a month and all seems to be going okay.
The band practices every Wednesday night, weather permitting. We are playing in an outdoor gazebo until it gets cold. Don't know what happens after that.
Glad you are okay. All the best, buddy,
GeorgeHey, Doc, I can only hope and pray that you and your wife will stay safe and healthy.

RE: Clean with 'alcohol'?
I was going to forget this thread until I saw that Robin had made a post. As usual, he makes a solid case on anything he discusses. I don't use alcohol either so what he had to say made good common sense to me.
Now I am saying farewell to this thread. -
RE: Artist on BOARD
Oh, yeah, Wayne, that is fantastic. I have experienced moments like that when on overnight trout fishing trips. It really comes alive for me.

RE: Clean with 'alcohol'?
@Dale-Proctor
Hooray...we're back on track. Good question, Dale .Now, I've had enough of this war zone. It's time to go play some music...what the world needs now is appropriate at the moment.

If we can't avoid finding opportunities to slip in cheap shots, I may just reconsider my participation in this forum.
Oh, man, I'd hate to see that, but I understand what you are saying and fully support it, and I would probably follow suit.
C'mon, Doc...be nice. -
RE: Clean with 'alcohol'?
@Kehaulani
I like your thinking, too, Kehaulani, but medical advice suggests I avoid alcohol while taking blood thinners.
Damn !!!!! -

RE: Opinions on Valve Oils?
The video shown here is exactly the way I was taught
( many moons ago...well 1953 to be exact ) to properly maintain the valves, but not every time you oil them. I used to do the complete thing maybe every third or fourth week, depending on how much playing I had been doing. -
